What was funny about saying that? I'm a man and I think it was in fact a murder joke. There's a subtext to what he said. It's a subtle murder joke. It's about context. We have this metaphor in our culture of defeating as murder. Like oh that test killed me! Etc so it's using the context of something someone says while killing as a metaphor for him beating her.
