What? You're right, that is ridiculous logic.... but that's not what I'm arguing. Here's me diagraming what I think you are arguing, M1 -> M2 (Taunting) M1 -> M2 (Belief that small genitalia == ridiculous) M1 -> Women (Belief that women == ridiculous) ------ leap in logic M2 -> Women (Belief that women == ridiculous) and I totally agree with that above argument if that's what you're saying (just making sure we aren't having any typos before moving on you see) But that is not what is being argued…

On this point, I think, you have it backwards. The point you are arguing against is actually the idea that if femininity were not somehow evil, then men would not be made fun of for these things because there would be nothing about which to make fun. Your comment is insightful, however. Indeed, I thought we'd moved past the fun making for things not under our control. I posit we have, and it's this other reason that is behind these hurtful and stupid jokes.

I completely agree with you. I'm saying that you have been handed a paradigm in which you can have a successful life and be happy/wealthy/cool while being a sysadmin. Women, by and large, are not given that paradigm. They are, by and large, given the paradigm that they must be attractive to be happy/wealthy/cool and that there is no "alternate route". Well I think sysadmin is a pretty cool job. I imagine you do too, otherwise you wouldn't be doing it. I don't think that people choose careers based SOLELY on coolness, but why shouldn't that factor into my decision?

I'm saying that I recognize that someone might not consider that rape and while I disagree I think the term is subjective enough for that to be valid. What I would like is acknowledgement of the wrongdoing of the perpetrator and recognition of the act itself as some form of sexual assault.

I understand the point of the op, I'm highlighting why the op is poisonous. If you "choose" to do something even if through coercion, you tend to end up thinking up reasons why you did. This is the power and damage of sexual assault: the damage caused to ones own beliefs and self esteem and ability to make good choices.

You're defining your victim as someone who is not a victim. You are not likely to fall victim to this kind of a situation and as such no one would try it with you. Th reason why these "scared and intimidated women" are "setting the standard" is because that's who is getting targeted because the perp has to KNOW this will go in their favor

Perhaps this is true of the term rape, but there is a form of inappropriate sexual assault that utilizes power differentials and inappropriate social pressure ( eg if you don't suck my dick you get an F in this class). In this instance, there is technically still a "choice" but agency has really been taken away from the victim and sex is happening. So in other words you don't have to call it "rape" but it's pretty fucking close.
