Reminds me of the Australian guy that lost his job, his wife and spent a week in jail after helping a woman with her car. He was finally exonerated by CCTV footage. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/teen-in-court-over-accusing-good-samaritan-of-indecent-assault-stalking/N4PAJATN7OYVWN4FZSI6OMDRWA/

If not using a dashcam he probably had the foresight to start recording audio when approaching a strange woman beside the road at night. Audio recorded normal conversation I'm sure up to them saying goodbye and her leaving the car. Enough to poke holes in her story of being kept in the car for 45 minutes being raped by 3 men.

This story is from 1999;) I imagine the money (1.3 million in California )is gone by now. Whoever ended up with it.

Yup. You pretty much at least knew most everyone around by name or reputation. Crime pretty rare. The occasional petty stuff though because people being people, but nothing major.

I lived in a place similar when younger. Electricity we had. Water was through wells. TV was through satellite. Police was County Sheriff or State police. Response times were...not the best. Generally most households had guns. Fire was a volunteer dept. Ambulance would come out from nearest town but again not the the best response time.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
