Personally I like having a good salary.

I think the most important idea within stoicism was to find a sense of meaning through your actions and not the results, something we often forget. The most obvious example is our tendency to change our opinions based on social consequences.

I really don't care. Their subreddit is pretty toxic and reminds me of MGTOW1. Edit: Also this post got me banned from rWGTOW within a couple of minutes lmao

But if you're a MGTOW you're not normal and that's the point of the movement. Being normal is not a badge of honor.
/r/MGTOW226/04/21 09:50 AM

I don't think a normal male life is a good model at all, that was my point

They self-destructed due to congestion. That's what's meant to be taken away from the experiment.
/r/MGTOW219/07/20 02:38 PM

It was an experiment on congestion, right? Physical and social space seems almost as relevant as food and water. I think that was what he was trying to prove.

I just want to add that I still want to be around both men and women because I think it's healthy. I already live in a remote area on the countryside by myself so I'm already enough of the outsider (which is a title I like to have).

I feel like a pretty stable person. It's mostly other people and my surroundings that bothers me. You can't really escape it. Modern culture penetrates everything, there are people everywhere and no man is an island.
/r/MGTOW220/06/20 12:59 AM

I'm talking about subjective meaning here. I don't even think objectivity is attainable and meaning will always be a human construct. If the solution is so simple, why do you think people have such problems making life fun and enjoyable?
/r/MGTOW220/06/20 12:42 AM
1

But I'm saying the opposite. That people aren't choosing a direction or point.
/r/MGTOW220/06/20 12:29 AM
1

I'm not necessarily judging my own life. I'm starting a discussion on modern life in general.
/r/MGTOW220/06/20 12:26 AM
1

My point is most people haven't even made up their own points which makes it pointlesss. Modern life is stereotypically directionless. I was never talking about some objective, cosmic point.

you never know what tomorrow brings. I really don't like that idea. I guess minor things like what I'm going to eat doesn't matter but in the larger picture I want stability and being in control over my own fate.
/r/MGTOW220/06/20 12:15 AM

No, everything is not escapism. Work is obviously part of "reality" by any definition.
/r/MGTOW216/06/20 11:06 AM
1

I think the deeper issue is boredom with a hint of powerlessness to affect their surroundings. I believe people consume and are active on social media because they are bored and cannot deal with it. It's escapism.

Living in the countryside has 100% made me happier. I got something external and it improved my well-being, I don't know what else to say.

It's certainly not a nice experience. Why bother with anything that isn't fun, interesting or rewarding? Maybe it's a fear of loneliness that makes men do what they really don't want to do.

I'm pretty sure I have a lot of control over it. The easiest and most common way people control it is by moving from a high-crime area to a low-crime area. One could choose to be resilient and stay in the high-crime area but I wouldn't.
/r/MGTOW205/05/20 04:57 AM

I never saw a purpose in it. Being resilient just for the sake of being resilient.

I get that money is important but it seems you have an obsession with careers and titles, right? Maybe I'm the one who's weird here but when you talk about PhD's, MIT and your friends becoming associates in top banks, it just sounds... boring. I immediately thought about the story of Lou: https://www.mgtow.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/lou.jpg I've realized in the past year that while I like my job, I mostly just do it so I can continue doing the things I actually want to do. Working on my smal…

My problem is I don't feel I need to improve my life. I'm in a good enough situation so I just play video games to stay busy.

It might just be 100% mental like what you said about accepting solitude. I don't feel I need any practical change really. I save a ton of money each month because I live frugally.
/r/MGTOW215/04/20 08:45 PM

I don't even know what I want changed. When I do my own thing I often feel a deep sense of loneliness. When I'm around other people I sometimes feel inauthentic and like I'm being pulled back into the Matrix.

Ironically it begins with him lonely and ends with him in what we can assume will be a relationship.

I don't really understand what this different outlook would be. What he's saying is essentially that you're alone spiritually in your own mind and everything outside of that can come and go. It sounds like a stoic quote, if you're familiar with them.
/r/MGTOW223/02/20 10:32 AM

I do not say lonely—at least, not all the time
/r/MGTOW223/02/20 10:22 AM

He literally says in this very short quote that people are essentially alone despite their company.

Incels are actively looking for that emotional crutch so I think they should be different but there's probably some overlapping.
/r/MGTOW222/02/20 02:54 PM
5

I don't believe a relationship is inherently bad, no. I believe most modern relationships are bad because they work as an emotional crutch so you don't have to deal with those 99 existential problems that become glaringly obvious the moment she leaves, and this can happen very quickly. You didn't do all those things you wanted to do, life didn't end up the way you really wanted but at least you have her. Until you don't.
/r/MGTOW222/02/20 02:24 PM

Like I said, it becomes a circular discussion. I could reply with what I just said.

I get your point even if I don't believe it's some conspiracy by da jooz. It would probably be best for society if men just acted like good automatons but at this point we don't care. We're not going to waste our lives searching for a needle in a haystack. You can say whatever you want but it's always going to return to this point. We're tired of being slaves to society.
/r/MGTOW222/02/20 11:54 AM

I think a "blank slate" man would be a MGTOW because it's really just the lack of belief in cohabitation and marriage. You don't have to believe in any of the "Red-pill" things to go your own way. You can go your own way and in 10 years maybe you'll find a woman to live with and it makes sense. MGTOW at its best is when you're not forcing anything, just look at life in raw terms and do whatever you feel you need to do. I promise you it's not going to be about chasing women like Pokémon.
/r/MGTOW222/02/20 11:35 AM

What did you really want? I'm genuinely interested in what men want, not what we pretend to want out of fear of loneliness.
/r/MGTOW215/02/20 11:31 PM
2

We are all alone, born alone, die alone, and—in spite of True Romance magazines—we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely—at least, not all the time—but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness. Perfect opportunity to become self reliant.

Specifically what I'm working towards is to move out to the countryside. I get no pleasure from the normal things people do in the city.
/r/MGTOW209/02/20 03:17 PM

I can't enjoy the present if I haven't done anything to deserve it. I want to move forward and make progress.

In modern western relationships it definitely tilts in favor of the woman. I think it's easier to make an argument for the things women prefer because it's related to comforts and being social while men want to do more individual and "chaotic" things. Society as a whole is kind of built for women and children.
/r/MGTOW208/02/20 11:04 AM

Then why are you here if you don't care about anyone else or men as a collective? Why aren't you "going your own way"? I'm criticizing men in general and want them to improve. That's the entire point of this sub.
/r/MGTOW207/02/20 11:11 PM
1

Looking at men and women from a general perspective is still at the core of MGTOW otherwise it wouldn't even be a movement. No man is an island, we can always learn from each other. Noticing flaws in men is definitely part of my MGTOW journey. Also why didn't you answer my question? Aren't you doing the exact same thing right now by criticizing my actions? Why aren't YOU going your own way?
/r/MGTOW207/02/20 10:32 PM

The exclusivity is a non-issue to me. The issue is men are expected to adapt and give up so much for their partner which is why they feel so lost after a break-up. Maybe I hang out with simps but it seems like it's very common for the woman to have the last say in most relationships and decide most things.
/r/MGTOW205/02/20 12:42 PM

A lot of men are bored, they have no things to spend all their time on. For a lot of men women become a distraction from the emptiness. It's easier to waste time and accept the meaninglessness together with another person. That's why I think MGTOW is so important. Set up your life the way you want it first, then you can maybe get a girlfriend who fits into your life.

I'm probably not gonna go too far, similar to Thoreau. I remember he still lived fairly close to civilization, visiting family and doing some business.

What I'm taking away from this little funny situation is that I'm even more scared of relationships now. He's the first guy in the old gang to "settle down"

Stoicism tries to teach us that our acknowledgments are irrelevant. Our opinions does not change reality and therefor it doesn't give anyone any power.
