I think the idea was trying to make the relationship better by doing nice things for each other, beyond what they've already done. I think RP addresses an issue with people today, not just a man and woman dynamic. People seem to have forgotten how to go above and beyond to make another person happy. It can seem condescending, but when there's a problem, it needs to be dealt with. White people took the blame for racism because they hindered the black community from integrating into society.
