Both, honestly. Females are a very illogical bunch, and think really emotionally, and like to gossip and complain but get mad if you give them a solution, which are things I don't understand or want to deal with. Plus, instituting a legal system for marriages based around 3+ people could get really tricky, and I don't think anyone important in the legal system will put the effort into sitting down and figuring it out any time soon.
