1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 0, 10. Wow. Add to that too much weed and atrocious sleeping patterns and a lot of my first year or so was a little trainwreck-y. Third year now though, and shit is well on track!

If you can afford gym fees, Starting Strength is great. I doubt you'll need a personal trainer, but you will need a lot of confidence and a solid chunk of time reading and watching stuff. Ask the experienced looking guys at the gym to check your technique (helps with socializing as well). If not, pullups, pushups, planks, dips if you can find parallel bars. Running. Tennis would be good as well. Physical fitness translates into more energy to do things (as opposed to sitting inside) and gives yo…

I really wouldn't call myself a great dancer. I don't really plan out anything or learn specific techniques (I had to youtube 2-step). I guess I just do a mix of 2-step-ish sort of stuff along the usual head nodding/arm stuff. A lot of alcohol (not to the point of uncoordination) really does help. The best tip I would offer is not to solo dance. You absolutely need a wingman or even 2 to attract/approach the typical group of girls. Very rarely have I seen a girl ditch her friend to make out with…

Yes! It took me ~18 months of going out somewhat regularly (once per 2 weeks maybe) and I finally f-closed from a dance floor approach just last week. It really is something that you need to just do over and over again, even when it feels pointless. Eventually you will start having a lot of fun dancing, which is perfect, because it both softens any rejection and makes girls start to approach you.

Nothing too serious yet, but the worst so far was a look of disgust when I tried to dance with a girl. Something to keep in mind there is "your actions are being rejected, not you as a person". Helps to keep confidence and motivation up.

Ha, 6'3 here as well and I do the same. It works especially well because my main wingman is average height, so if he approaches a short-average girl on the dancefloor, it's really easy for her taller friend to dance with me.

Pretty hard to keep one of those clean. Your average stoner isn't going to flinch at a stained bong or pipe but it's probably offputting for a casual smoker.

Because people I can be medium or long-term friends with (as opposed to acquaintances) don't come around that often. I'm not a "social butterfly", I don't have a social circle. I only have friends who I enjoy spending time with, and people who I couldn't care less about (who are also really awkward to talk to after the initial meeting, because I know we're not friends). I'm not looking to become friends with girls because of the social connections or the chance to meet dozens of girls, I just wa…

Do you have any advice on making friends with girls? Or any links to information? Havn't really seen much on seddit about platonic relationships. Usually with male friends we share interests in music/similar physical activities/drugs/being open-minded/philosophy, and our general position in life is similar (intelligent and nerdy yet not socially retarded). If I meet a girl like this, then sure - we'll probably become friends if I don't act too retarded. The problem is that as long as I'm not phy…

Guilty as charged on the bad photo, I couldn't resist. And yes, I stand by the "next to no sex appeal". I'm sure for the general population who actually enjoys watching standard porn, she has loads of sex appeal (I guess they're also cool with women being called "penthouse pets" - wtf is this). Those vapid facial expressions are quite possibly the biggest turnoff I've ever seen. In comparison, the model I linked has some of the most genuine facial expressions I've ever seen in a model, including…

This girl has next to no sex appeal. Peace.

He's not a close friend so I don't really know. The time I have spent with him though, he seems to show it off a bit. Last time I saw him he was talking about he was so tired from standing up at a concert that he had to use his chair that day. So I guess he is pretty comfortable with it.

I think you can definately pull it off. I have a mate who often uses a chair, and he seems to do fine. Here's a Simple Pickup vid where they pick up in chairs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64Ixzp94ksw Not sure what seddit thinks about these guys but IMO it's worth a watch.

I don't have the link to the article on hand. I'm pretty sure I read it after reading this though, maybe followed a link related to it: http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/cupids-poisoned-arrow/201001/was-the-cowardly-lion-just-masturbating-too-much That's also an interesting read. Helped me get a handle on the idea of "easy" good feelings (masturbation, weed etc.) being inferior to other good feelings, like social interaction etc.

Heh, you just reminded me of my martial arts years with the "bowing when you enter/leave a room etc". I did it from when I was ~9 years old to 17, so it definately conditioned me not to ridicule the tradition from an early age. Still, thinking back on it I think there is merit to it (it including addressing teachers formally, bowing to start class etc.). It shows respect for those teaching you and respect for those training with you. I think psychologically it may be beneficial as well. The only…

Question for you sir - are you doing Crossfit because you want all-round fitness, the social environment, all the planning done for you or what? I'm not very experienced on crossfit apart from reading about it on wiki and fittit but it seems like following a beginner strength program (SS/SL/whatever) followed by a program that fits your needs will get you into better shape. I did a hybrid martial arts for years and years (which included a lot of flexibility/mobility/power/endurance exercises alo…

Note on the suit thing - it needs to fit you well, and your personality needs to fit it. Personally I don't ever wear suits, even on formal occasions (no regular need for a suit, so I don't want to waste money on one), but I hate people who are taking it as a joke or some sort of fancy dress/overt pick-up tool. It definately works better if you have the right sort of inner-game. With that said, I guess you could pull off wearing a suit as some sort of joke/funny accessory, but I think the other …

Was confusing until I realised that you're on the same wavelength as something I was reading a while ago - life is composed of both "good" and "bad" feelings, and you shouldn't simply be trying to maximise the good ones and get rid of the bad. That's not happiness. Part of being happy is accepting both the good and bad feelings that come with being human.

You havn't looked around enough. I browse seddit because I want to be more confident in ALL social situations, whether this is in a work environment, simply buying stuff from a store, making friends at uni, getting more comfortable talking to girls. There are the tactics and then there are the posts dealing with psychological issues, and with the concept of putting in effort and bettering yourself as a person to achieve results. I pretty much only focus on the latter, and I'm finding that it's w…

Not sure about vocalising it. I find that there is a moment where you need to man up. At this point the chance of her reciprocating is going to be 50%+, probably 90%+ if you judge it well enough. At the very least, you should build some sort of connection (physically or through conversing) first, then even if you get rejected it will be more her problem that she doesn't want to kiss you, not your problem for attempting it.

Looks decent, will check it out. I don't think college game is any different though, everything on seddit applies really. You definately don't need social circle game that much around here, since there are so many people living on their own near uni, people who don't have a huge social circle etc. and it's very easy to talk to these people.

He means that someone could mistakenly think your eye contact was aggressive. They will then retaliate and try to counter your intimidation that wasn't actually intimidation at all. If you're the kind of person that would be taken aback by this, you might become aggressive even though your intentions were originally not aggressive at all. I still make eye contact with guys though. However, it is brief, I don't smile or make intense eye contact, it's usually just a "I'm confident enough to look y…

I have this problem a wee bit as well. There's the fairly unconfident people who just stare at the ground. There's the people that will sneakily check you out to see who you are and just keep walking. Then there's sunglasses. And the horrors of the mobile phone, which seems to turn anyone walking and talking into a robot who doesn't notice anyone around them. Sometimes people are pre-occupied with conversation as well. All of this makes up a fairly large proportion of girls I see on campus. I th…

He meant the waiter for the cafe. This was a completely different cafe though. Plenty of them at my uni, quite good. Not quite up to actually getting into relationships with random people yet, just working on connecting with girls more.

Here is what I would do: Tell her to close her eyes. If she likes and trusts you she won't mind doing this. Then go in for the kiss. Will be pretty natural since closing eyes while kissing (at least for girls) seems to be a very common thing.

Wow, seddit does come out with some gems, I really like that quote. Here's another corny yet good quote: "There are no shortcuts to any place worth going". And sometimes you really do need to just "man up" so to speak. You can't plan for every occurance in your life, and if you do you will let a lot of opportunities go.

Nice post. I've been starting from the very beginning, just working on eye contact and having comfortable conversations with strangers for the past few weeks. Was wondering why my confidence/eye contact was not working the past week. I think it's because I've been doing the corner of my eye thing as well. I shall try some straight on stuff tomorrow!

If you're interested then act interested. You don't need to be this super-jaded unaffected-by-everything guy. Of course, you don't need to be falling head over heels at what they're saying but you don't need to pretend not to enjoy the conversation/topic.

I don't think I could go for thumb-wars, that kind of died out almost a decade ago for me. I can see it being a bit of a regional thing as well, in the way that people do scissors paper rock in various orders/styles. I never got the high-five thing either. Just seems like a really weird thing to do. I guess if you both agreed on something it would be "in the moment" and work, but just doing it as a greeting/departure/random thing seems weird. Never heard of poking as an example of kino. I like it. Most other forms seem really difficult for me to even comprehend trying, but now that I realise it when I want to get someone's attention in a noisy place I will most likely poke them on the arm. Seems like a good playful thing.

Terrible social anxiety? There are no quick tips that will let you magically pick up girls if you truly have it. Can you comfortably talk to sale staff, cashiers, people taking your orders for food etc? As in complete comfort? Would you feel extremely awkward asking someone for the time of day on the street? If you answered no, then you want to work on the small details first. Confident eye contact with people (try not to be the one who looks away, within reason), comfortable interactions with p…

I think I agree with you now. I guess it's reasonable to play the part with the intention of seduction. I'm not completely sure though. I feel like being who you want to be AND getting girls is a much greater achievement. For example, I have a friend who is doing Computer Science with me, he plays games, programs, is into pokemon. He definately attracts women though, every time he goes to this big alternative/punk club in the city he says he gets many hookups. Proof is in the facebook adds I see…

And completely undermine your integrity just to get girls! Yay! I personally believe that as long as you have diverse, healthy interests (and no, I don't consider gaming unhealthy unless it's in excess) it doesn't matter 100% what they are. It's great to be into popular TV series, movies, music etc. but you don't exactly need to become a sports jock.

Sounds boring as fuck and college provides the perfect social setting. Everyone is young, attractive more often than not and keen to try new shit/meet new people.

Lol. I don't think this is a good idea. To get the point of not caring you would have to get pretty drunk (assuming you have some anxiety in the first place), and this will make the majority of sober people pretty cautious of you. Probably want to do it in a bar/club first.
/r/seduction30/07/11 04:05 PM

If you can get your intention across without using them, yes. But I guess that sometimes when you use them you can also reduce the overall length of your message, so I guess balance is needed.

I like what you said about proximity. If you're 6 inches away from a girl for more than a few seconds and she's comfortable with it, maintaining eye contact etc. then go for it! I find it pretty easy to "man up" from this position, but going for a kiss from a foot+ away is kinda awkward for me.

Wow, amazing post(s) once again. Should consolidate your posts into one post and have it stickied (or whatever they call it in reddit-land). I now realise that I may have overplayed my anxiety a bit. I mean, it has been bad in the past but I think recently I may have subconsciously realised that I have been subconsciously avoiding things, if that makes any sense. At uni before break started I was trying to make eye contact and smile at girls who walked past. I stopped avoiding going shopping/out…

Thanks a bunch for replying sir. So many options, but I think I shall start off with the making a list of things that make me anxious and go from there. Will also check out meditation and body language. The book you recommended isn't really an option as I'm trying to cut down on pretty much all my non-essential spending (poor uni student). Now that I think back on it, we even danced a bit at a pub/club, grinding and all. She was a non-drinker as well. Hmm, you're probably right, I think she definately wanted it now that I think about it, but she made it so impossible to actually take it any further. I met a girl at college last year who was a hardcore christian, I think she was officially no sex before marriage but she never mentioned anything like that to me. We hung out a bit, watched late night movies on bed, even held hands once, almost slept with her (not fucked, just slept). I could never tell if she wanted to take things further. I could either ask her but I had no idea how to do that without it being horribly awkward, so that left just going for a kiss but that was out of the questi…

Holy shit, if I could upvote this a million times I would. Everything you said is extremely relevant to my situation, I think we pretty much have (or have had?) the same level of shyness/anxiety. All the stuff you said about coping mechanisms make perfect sense. I always hated initiating conversation through phone calls...if I got a call the onus was on them to guide the conversation, but the other way 'round you have to articulate what you want without sounding awkward and I used to hate that. …
