If they are going to be slutty for me (and me only) then they obviously have excellent taste and discriminating judgement. If they are going to be slutty for someone else then they are a cheap whore. I've struggled with it for a while, but that is honestly how I feel. If we are talking about any kind of long-term relationship then I want a woman who is going to be a lady in public and who enjoys having sex.

Here is a chance to change your thoughts. Maybe most of the women at a gym don't want to be bothered, but (obviously) not all of them. She was basically telling you she wanted to be bothererd by you and you blew it because you were caught up in your head. Don't worry about it this time, but be prepared next time. Ask her how her work out is going, or how long she's been comming there, or what music she's listening to, or anything. You can even look her in the eye and say "hi". It doesn't really …

I've been going out to nice place dressed in a t-shirt, jeans and docs for the last few months. I've been going out to rather places near the beach after I get out of the water from surfing. There's a few bars in this very wealthy community. There is no way I can compete on the money front, so I just go how I'm confortable. I seem to be doing OK, although I haven't been putting any real effort into getting numbers or anything. I keep meeting a lot of people, and that's what I'm looking for right…

Someone else posted this, but it bears repeating: I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

It sounds like you have a great time dancing, and that's what counts. I wouldn't worry about it if your milkshake didn't bring all the girls to the yard. That's how it goes sometimes. I'm a pretty mellow, laid-back kind of guy, so that's pretty much how I am when I go out. If you are high-energy then I think you should go with that. You'll get more women who are into that sort of thing. I'm not saying that you shouldn't try to adjust your levels to match the situation, just that I don't have any…

1.) Let them decide if they want to talik to you or not. You have no idea what is going through their head. You obviously think you do, but that's just a projection of your own insecurities. Maybe they find the smell of sweat to be very attractive. Maybe they don't, or maybe they just don't care. You don't know, and now you never will. If you see something where they look uncomfortable, then by all means bail. But give it the ol' college try first. It's just not worth it to worry too much about …

I don't think you should put up an act. It's not about becoming some phoney parody of yourself, like some stereotypical used-car salesman or something. You said that you have a problem with your self-image. There is a book that might help. "Intimate Connections", and it helped me a lot. It's focused on cognitive and behaviorial therapy, and it has a lot about how to change unrealistic self talk. Another thing that might help is to go to some AA meetings. Some of them will allow visitors, and you…

I hope you take warpcowboy's advice. It's not worth it to dwell on mistakes. Consider it a learning experience, even if it didn't work out like you wanted it to. Please note that I'm not saying you should never feel bad. Go ahead and feel bad for a while -- it's part of learning. This has been a hard-won lesson for me: Making mistakes isn't such a big deal -- the important thing is what you do next. It's important to forgive yourself (and others) and just get on with your life. You will be much …

I almost forgot about that book until I came across it in a book store, and I've been pushing it lately because it helped me a lot. Don't get me wrong, I'm still terrible at the approach. Generally I just sit at the bar and talk to whoever happens to sit next to me. I still really need to get better at walking up to groups of women in a social setting. But it's tough because it's hard to find a good crowd for me. I'm also 42, a single dad with two young boys, plenty of hobbies and a busy life so…

First, you are right to be asking if it actually works. Its important to see if the original claims match up to the results. And it is possible it's all a scam. I think the important thing is to approach it with an open mind. Treat it as an experiment, give it an honest try and see what happens. If you don't like the results then you can stop. This isn't about PUA material specifically, but it is about a book that helped me years ago -- Intimate Connections. It's not a PUA book exactly and it fo…

You're right in that it's certainly not necesary. Whether to buy a drink or not totally depends on the situation and the woman. I also think that, as you get older, it's less and less of an issue. I just remember one or two younger women thinking that I was trying to get them to "owe me something" for buying them a drink. I've found that women older than 25 or 30 or so are more likely to just say "thanks" and talk for a while.

I also think that, as you get older, it's more acceptable. Both parties tend to understand it as a way to break the ice more than anything else.

I went through this a long time ago, and I'm happy to help. There just wasn't as much material available, so I didn't get as far as a lot of the people here, but it's definitely possible to start at zero, like I did, and then work at it and do a lot better. These are all skills you can learn. I think the biggest problem I had at the time was simply keeping an open mind. Now I appreciate that a lot of my own problems are caused more from things I learned that are simple incorrect, or self-limitin…

Or maybe she'll wonder what she missed for the rest of her life... It's hard to say, and you never know what's going on in someone elses head. I should add that it's great that you tried it out. Sometimes it's good to go out and purposely fail at something just to get over it in your mind. What's the worst that could happen? Maybe her boyfriend beats you up or something, but most likely she'll just say no. It can be very freeing to fail at something... So good for you!

Look straight in their eyes, make a sly grin and say "I'll show you mine if you show me yours". The tone of your voice should make it clear you aren't talking about the same thing they are talking about. I've used it once as a response to a different, similar, question and it went well. But it was with my ex-wife, so it doens't count.

Well, it's hard to say for sure how it affected me because it's been so many years, but I'll do my best... I think I found the book when I was 20, or maybe 21, I know it was before I was 22, because I was dating a stripper on my 22nd birthday (1). So the "before" is set in my late teens and very early 20s. I grew up very "alone". I'm an INTP, and I spent a lot of my childhood reading and imagining things. I had a few close friends as I grew up, so it's not like I was completely alone, but I spen…

A few threads in here have made me notice that a lot of people are just trying to act the part of being alpha. The thread about not laughing too hard at jokes, and others like it, have made me wonder about how we're all going about this "seduction" we're all going for. I'd bet a lot of it has to do with personality type. I'm very introverted, so inner game is important to me. I'd bet that the more extroverted types are more concerned with outer game. Sometimes people need basic techniques to get…

"Cargo Cult Pickup" was one of the first terms to pop into my mind, too. However, it can be useful to know a bunch of techniques. First, you have to start somewhere. After all, you need to get some experience in order to get to a point of real understanding. So start out with whatever techniques you want. After a while you'll find that the techniques aren't so important because it's more about who you are as a person. Also, you are right when you say that you can never tell what's going on in so…
