Putting in the work - Still feel frozenBurned is right. I realize now maybe the red flags were always there. There was a time where my ex was a hard worker like me and I valued that, but she quit her job and was happy just having me support her; I wasn’t (I did my best to be supportive, but still failed.) All that hard work and being the only income to still be 50/50. I gave up my twenties working overtime. Didn’t payout financially, but was able to build my skill set. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/06/25 02:44 PM
Putting in the work - Still feel frozenI can relate, I grew apart from all of my prior friends. It was me and her vs the world; then it was just me. I have rebuilt new friends slowly, but for a time I grieved in isolation. My family is close…. but complicated. She was the closest to family I have ever had. One of the only people to actually know me and feel close. I have been working on vulnerability and finding deeper relationships with current friends. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/06/25 01:53 PM
Putting in the work - Still feel frozenI limit screen time of social media (including Reddit) to an hour a day total. I read (currently: The Stand) and watch sitcoms on tv (currently: how I met your mother.) Other media such as YouTube is for music or to watch instructional videos to improve my guitar/piano playing. I live alone, work full time, and take dance lessons weekly (and go social dancing.) Not a lot of time left over for much else. Not sure if you’re hinting at, but I stay away from all that Alpha Male content that has seem… | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/06/25 01:48 PM
Putting in the work - Still feel frozenThank you, this resonates. Just a tough season I guess. It has been on my mind to reconnect with an old therapist. I appreciate your comment. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/06/25 01:38 PM
My first solo apartmentWent through this a couple of years ago. What helped is finding ways to make this space my own. Bought a rug, paintings I liked, really made this place home. Other important thing was to find a hobby that has a community. I took dance classes and go dancing every week. Made a ton of great friends. Shits still hard, but this can be a beautiful time if you put in the effort. Wish you the best. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/06/25 04:34 AM
Divorced; First loveAll great questions… vacuuming lol. Towards the end she started helping me with the yard work. A week after separation she already was working full time. She even told me “look how easy it was for me to get a job” It was like she completely forgot our previous conversation/separation. I probably will never know, but I feel like she just wanted to use me up until the end. I refuse to believe love was not mutual though. I have never felt so strongly about anyone and we did have many good times. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/05/23 09:19 PM
Divorced; First loveThank you! I have been growing and going forward. One thing that struck me was when an employee of mine said that I seem happier and she asked me what was different. At this time I was two months into separation and that was the only change. Honestly, I was incredibly miserable at that time, but the pressure was lifted from me and others noticed a better version of me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/05/23 09:08 PM
Divorced; First loveWe did try and work it out. We separated for a couple weeks and I spent time thinking about how I needed us to grow. She listened and just didn’t follow through. I just wanted her to work towards getting a job, I wanted her to do grocery shopping, and not expect me to do all vet/dr appointments. I didn’t want to continue working 50-80 hour weeks while she did dishes, laundry, and watched Netflix. We have no kids and I know she was depressed and I was too. I just hated having to take ownership to… | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/05/23 08:57 PM
For those that are divorcedSold my 3bed/2bath that I bought before marriage….she got half. Now I am living in a camper trailer to save money. Rent elsewhere is ridiculous. It’s not terrible, but I have to remind myself that this is just temporary. On a plus side I now have better AC and hotter showers! | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/05/23 06:24 PM
Giving yourself your confidence backThis didn’t work well for me. I had a few matches and a few conversations, but overall the apps just tanked my confidence and I had to delete them. Also, doesn’t help that every time I think I’m ready, I realize I’m not. I was doing really good, but I am struggling right now…. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/05/23 06:09 PM
