This is a fair point you bring up. So then how would it be done? Would the doctor take the husband aside for a test? It couldn't be done in the presence of the wife, although if it was mandatory she couldn't have much of a say in the matter. I'm just curious as to how this would be done, also taking into account some pathological fear of needles, would an alternate DNA sample yield the same conclusive results? Could the test be made without drawing blood? I just worry about mandating medical pro…

Wait, some states require a blood test before marriage? What? Why? Also I believe that a better idea would be having a paternity test readily available to any man who wants one, in the same way that epidurals are available to women in labour. Mandating them is a misappropriation of valuable hospital resources.

Agreed, the physical requirements are just that, required by the individual to properly perform the tasks demanded by the profession. Lowering or eliminating those requirements is a logical fallacy.

Stay-at-home dad here, I don't think that my partner (female, FWIW) believes for one second that she's more intellectually capable than I. She's smarter that I am in some respects, and I am much more adept than her at others. Sounds like the lady quoted in the article doesn't see their marriage as a partnership, but more like a child care arrangement, since she has no problem identifying herself as "the smart one".
