That’s a good point about recall bias. I hadn’t thought about that, thanks. That was counting all rape. I added up all the female and male estimated lifetime victims that reported “female perpetrators only” and “male and female” perpetrators for both penetrated and MTP and divided by total number of victims. Do you happen to know how the person emailed them? I tried contacting a few different emails I could find and got nowhere with it.

There certainly are issues with the math used for the original assertion. There is no way to calculate the percentage of rapists by gender based on this data. You would have to assume nobody has been raped by multiple people over their lifetime and that no rapist has raped multiple victims. Both are obviously not true. Its complicated. It’s taken as a fact because it basically is a fact. The prefrontal cortex does actually take longer to develop in males than females. Males will take longer to score typically as adults on psychological testing. There’s consistently strong evidence backing this up. However, I do believe what you say holds some truth. Yup. I think the way to do that is de-gendering the concept of abuse. There is a reason why men don’t collectively fear abuse from women, despite it being just as common as male on female abuse. If it’s not framed as a male perpetrated issue, “violence against women”, or “gender based violence”, there’s no longer a perceived need for women to fear men because they aren’t painted as a ticking time bomb of violence.

I think a PSA like that for suicide prevention could have some value, but should be directed towards loved ones instead of depressed men themselves. Is that really a primarily womens issue? I’d believe it if it is, but I’d always just assumed it was a general issue for overweight people since it’s happened to both my wife and I. I’m extremely iffy on this one. I think that testing should be mandatory for child support, but I’m not sure about at birth for all babies. A marathon would be thousands on top of normal caloric need. A mile run burns ~100 calories. Someone running a marathon would burn 2600 kcal + the normal 2000 calories.

I had to do an online training on sexual assault when I started college. At the end of it, there was an interactive thing where you plugged in things like gender, age, race, sexual orientation, whatever and it told you your risk level. If you put female it gave the risk of being assaulted. If you put male, it told the risk of you assaulting someone.

I’m married and it’s got much more benefit than risk for me. By statistical data, we’re at a lower risk of divorce (first marriage, parents still together, cohabitation prior to marriage, income, married after age 25, kids after marriage). Health insurance, tax rate, and legal protections are well worth the risk.
