In my experience you have to give everyone a value, just like if you were counting cards or trying to find a salesman to give you a good deal on a new car. You count their value to you, and your perceived value to them, but it works the other way too. They have a perceived value on you, and didn't realize you'd pick up what they said and think of them this way. Rule your life from this, yes, even with women. In your case, even with your family and the guy at the jewelry store.

I think you are speaking of Pedigree Collapse. Think of this. You've got 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, 16 great-great-grandparents etc. Where does the exponential growth stop?
