It's not just math, but it's also psychology, neurology, and biology. Your gut biome and your brain are adapted to whatever your current diet is, and if you change it, especially by eating less, your body and your brain are going to be SCREAMING at you to stop and go back. It's honestly pretty damn hard for a lot of people to fight against that, especially if they're already dealing with other responsibilities like work and family and really, really, really just want to eat a damn pretzel or som…

Toxic masculinity doesn't exist, then? Ok, I'll remember that the next time this sub complains about how hard males have it with not being allowed to have emotions or be weak, or having a higher rate of suicide than women.

Oh, you're one of those Trump cultists, then. That explains it.

How? I only stated that being gay doesn't make someone a pedophile. How am I defending pedophiles when my argument is that being gay doesn't make someone a pedophile?

And? That doesn't mean that being gay automatically makes someone a pedophile.

you can't simply make an assertion that girls are incapable of making their own choices because society. But that's not what I'm saying at all. What I'm saying is that society encouraging people to do X thing makes those people more likely to do X. When one group is being encouraged to do something from the beginning of their lives while another is actively discouraged from doing it, and then it turns out that the first group is more into that thing, it's kind of hard to argue that it was all ab…

I think you're underestimating the impact of societal approval. A lot of the reason I had any interest in science at all as a kid was because my dad encouraged me to learn more about it, giving me books about astronomy and nature. Had I been born a girl, there are really no guarantees that he would have done the same.

Step one: develop an interest in science and engineering as a young girl Step two: be bullied and ridiculed by everyone else for having unfeminine interests Step three: feel alienated because all the cool stuff like toys that let you mess around with building stuff are made "for boys" because marketing Step four: stop pursuing your interests because people hurt you for doing that Step five: ??? Step six: Profit! (or don't)

You missed the part where they're actually aware of the consequences of their actions and instead of saying, "welp, it's impossible" and giving up, they actually try to understand the risks involved in those actions and work around them. Insofar as nature can be said to actively "punish" anyone, it generally doesn't punish you for your actions if you're able to inform yourself about them and take action based on that information.

Really? They're "born knowing how to manipulate men"? If we're going to use anecdotes, from what I can tell, women, on average, actually seem less manipulative than men. I've only met one or two girls that ever actively tried to manipulate me, and they were both outliers, or "unicorns" as you would put it. Most of the men I've interacted with are either manipulative bullies, aggressive bullies, both, or a puppet of either one. Not to mention that assuming that women "dress sexy" just to attract …

The difference being that "slutty girls" generally do not create entire ideologies based around manipulating men into having sex with them, and then dehumanizing them when they do.

I think a rather large issue that many people miss is that attractiveness is subjective, and what makes someone desirable to one person may make another person recoil in disgust. People are fairly diverse in their tastes and opinions, as one long look at the history of mankind will tell you, and everyone would probably be better off if they learned to accept it. The problem is that a lot of people, especially in their teen years, are often told that this is what you're supposed to be attracted t…

How does changing gender roles cause higher divorce rates?
/r/PurplePillDebate08/02/14 04:38 AM

I guess my answer is a bit colored because I don't believe it's natural for men to value peaceful resolution over violence. Why not? But if a man actually did so, then it would strip away a layer of confusion for him and add another as he would probably question why others were so different than him. And if he was raised to solve conflict with violence it would just add the one layer we just removed. The root cause solution to this is to be self-validated and then all the confusion becomes irrel…

It's one thing to fill up a boy's room with Barbie dolls, but what if he wanted some to play with? Would that be a bad thing? I'd also like to add that 'the universe' does not have a will of its own, and that thanks to technology doing most of the work nowadays, they can pretty much do the same stuff. There might be certain niches where one gender performs better at a task than another, but generally speaking, a woman driving a car isn't going to magically cut its milage in half. Essentially, wh…

A man, in this case. Though I wouldn't mind knowing what your arguments for "all men" are, if you have them.

What if a man or woman isn't interested in the usual gender roles, though? Would it harm society if, for example, more women were to focus on their careers while more men focused on their friends and family?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/14 11:49 PM

Okay, so what about a man that was already naturally inclined to value peaceful resolution over violence, despite whatever values they were raised with, then? Would those same arguments still apply? Also, "delicious" amount of alienation? What do you mean by that?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/14 11:37 PM

No. I would contend that there are also many people who feel it unimportant, but a lot of media and societal attitudes reinforce the fact that it somehow is, so it would be a very confusing experience to someone who feels like they have to adopt certain traits in order for society to accept them. For example, a man who was raised to value peaceful resolution over violence would feel alienated at media depicting macho men committing acts of violence to solve their problems. They would also feel a…

Honestly, I like the message of self-sufficiency, but one of the issues is that it seems to imply that you can't want other people to be a part of what you want out of life while still remaining masculine, and that they are inferior for wanting that. On top of that, he also appears to imply that if a man wants to marry a woman because they are the person they want to spend the rest of their life with, and not simply because they would make a good wife and mother, they are weak and pathetic.
