Have you tried running or interval training. Revs up your metabolism and also builds and preserves new lean mass. I don't think I've ever not been physically active but I feel like diet/calorie control alone isn't a good way to live just to maintain weight b/c it leaves you soft and it just makes it easier to gain weight. People forget weight gain is often very gradual which is why it happens so easily. You just need to eat slightly more than you need every day and then it just sneaks up. Then they look back and go "well see it must be out of my control bc it's not like I was overeating or anything". Sometimes people go from heavy overeating, try to diet but just go down to slightly overeating, find they are still gaining, and conclude dieting or lifestyle doesn't work.

For many contexts, how temporary or easy to change something is shouldn't matter if we're talking about shaming.
