I wonder what this means for currently married couples. Think about 30M and 28F as the cohort of 22f starts hitting the office and the cohort of 22M is way under represented everywhere the professional women want to be.

Can’t get on board with this. First you are attributing a value to a difference. Both responses are adaptive. Second, the male brain demonstrably develops more slowly than women. So unless you are talking about the over 30 crowd, you can bet solidly that age for age the women in the group will be more mature than the men.

And...it’s a very rational strategy.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but you are naive and it’s causing you a bitterness that is keeping you from really seeing what’s in front of you. If you can’t see it, you can’t learn. Here it is, most women are not looking for a nice guy. They are looking for a winner. That’s the first sorting. Then, within the group of winners, they will choose the nicest guy. But winner comes first. And this is not crappy—men do it too. Sexual attractiveness first, then from the group of sexy women, nic…

My first encounter with this was in college. I had friend who’s boyfriend would beat her. One day she shows up with a straight up black eye. We talked for several hours about it. The summary was that she forth rightly recognized that the kind of men she found sexy and interesting were also the kind of men who would get volatile rages and hit their women. She was very clear that she would rather get beat on occasionally than sleep with a guy who would never hit her bit who also didn’t give that t…

Is that really a thing? Similarly I heard the someone assert that most women become mothers but only about half of men become fathers. The math seems off there.

Wait, good enough to sleep with or good enough to make a life altering long term commitment to?

No, I don’t either, it’s overly reductionist. On the other hand, it’s importance to have some self knowledge and part of that self knowledge is the humility to realize that one is probably not a statistical outlier. What that translates into, for a man, is the idea of thinking about what kind of mate are you likely to want to cheat on and what kind of women are likely to want to cheat with. And, conversely, what kind of man is my wife likely to cheat on/with. That data for that analysis is prett…

This is a really great clarification. So, for a college educated man, maybe the advice is to rent at the coffee shop across from the law firm but buy at the bar across from they beauty college?

What impact do you think either/both hypergamy or assortive mating has in inequality? I’m wondering about this dynamic where college educated women won’t marry non college educated men, and college educated men (because of the male female graduation rate mismatch) are all being sucked up by college educated women.

Flowing with your analogy. What’s the impact of the situation where men are essentially shopping for a good that declines in value quickly after leaving the store, but women are essentially looking for an investment that will increase in value over time?

What an understatement!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
