Same line as the "I'm not your therapist" imo. There can be valid use cases but often it's pulled out when it's not quite appropriate, to save the partner from having to do some emotional labour in the relationship. I've had ex's that would need to be looked after and guided through mental breakdowns but I couldn't get frustrated with them or have a bad day.

This is the one. Reading through this thread reminded of my last (and last) relationship. Was really difficult to get out, and the more you struggle, the harder they manipulate and abuse to keep you in. It's like quicksand. I get the comments calling the guy out, how he's a simp, etc, cause that's what I used to say to myself, while simultaneously staying. Yeah, there's only a few very close friends and family who know what I went through, and they were understanding. It sucks but most people will not give the same kind of treatment as they would if the genders were flipped. A lot of abusive people (or a certain set of them) seem to follow a script, they all play out in a similar way. It's one of the things that actually gave me some comfort.
