Okay. This is going to be an extremely terrible story. Years ago, I was once at a lounge for a friend's event by myself, and this guy and his friend (fellow event-goers) kind of "adopted" me to their table, but were weirdly competing against each other for my attention. Finally, one gave up and left. To be honest, I had no real attraction to them; I was just being social. But when the remaining guy stood up, he was noticeably shorter than me, and I'm about 5'6 1/2". Unfortunately, seeing this im…

I'm sad to hear you were told you had low standards for something like that! I also am not too big on height in a partner. For me, it's "just don't be shorter than me." "Tall" doesn't equal "sexy" for me, cause i've seen some tall, gangly motherfuckers lol. For me it's more about the body shape/proportion, if i'm strictly looking at physicality.

I don't THINK he ever outright physically cheated, but he "entertained" other women's advances far too much (that night wasn't the first example of evidence, just the final straw for me when I realized this shit would never change, even after like 8 years together and a marriage) 🙄

My intuition has never steered me wrong about it. Snooping through my ex-husband's phone one night and discovering lies I thought we'd settled and sexy pics was the night I knew I was getting a divorce.

Wait, i've read many romance novels. Do you mean men don't get any value from reading them? Or the actual male characters in the NOVELS themselves don't get anything of value? Elaborate?

Girl, my energy is shifting the same way. I love my life and my freedom. After dropping my last LVM I made a fool of myself for, i'm slowly starting to question...why do I need YOUR attention? Why do I need YOUR conversation...why do I need YOUR dick when I can snap my fingers and have guys at the ready? You're not showing me why...oh wait...I don't...and it's fucking FREEING.

I SECOND THIS. Although I didn't consider it "settling" I fell for the "loving personality" they showed at the beginning more so than the looks, UNTIL THEY TOOK THE MASK OFF AND DROPPED THAT FACADE. 🙄 All I learned is, conventionally handsome or not, LVMs of all kinds still wont appreciate you.

Haha right? I removed my love of video games from dating apps because I found I was definitely attracting more of the neckbeard crowd. And while I ADORE anime conventions, and have even dressed up for them, people have suggested in the past "oh, why not find someone there?" And i'm like NAHHHHH. NooooooOoOoo. Noooope. Nuh-uh. :x

Oh my god, i'm so sorry you had to deal with that for so long!!He sounds like the worst kind of coward. I'm happy though that you were able to gain control and make a plan to be free of all this bullshit. No matter what happens, you will definitely be in a better place mentally without him, no question. You've already recognized what needs to be done so you're halfway there. Stick to your plan and you will definitely be okay.

I think what happens is, we go through the experience at least once, where if we really like the guy we chase after him, try to be the person we think he wants etc...then after we get totally BURNED and mistreated, we learn. So the next time it happens we see the signs and move on early. I now know, paying me little mind=not that interested OR playing a game i'm not about to play.

As someone who grew up NOT a girly girl, it's interesting to read stories of women whose mothers berated them for doing so! I grew up very tomboyish, to the point where my mom and aunts were always trying to push femininity and girly girl styles on me; they'd even "joke" and say I looked like a little "lesbo." 🙄 I eventually grew into my own style of comfortable/youthful/anime girl, while my own best friend is glamour girl central (my mom, who has narc tendencies would even compare us and say I …

YUPP this has been me. I was the woman who loaned her men money and tried to educate THEM on good financial practices for YEARS in an effort to build them up. Done being the ride-or-die chick, as it only benefits the man-child.

Hey it's perfectly okay if you just want to remain single. I envy you actually haha. I definitely would like to find someone I connect with, but am totally fine staying single until that time comes. I certainly do get wanting the sex and intimacy part. The few times I've tried to have FWB situations it didn't work out. The guys couldn't even be COUNTED on to deliver good sex!! Which I found crazy! So I hope you can find some sort of balance, cause I damn sure can't find it. But you're not selfis…

I feel like some of your thoughts resonate with me. I too am independent, live alone, provide for myself and love my life and the way I do things. I also HATE dating. Most of the relationships I've fallen into have been organic and fell into place, so I've been able to avoid the whole "dating" culture for the MOST part. But when I do go on dates, do I feel bad if the man wants to pay for me? No. I don't see that as "providing" for me. I see it as good manners on his part. This isn't to say that …

Oh I don't mean to say i'm WHOLLY unaffected. We're brought up in this society so it's unavoidable. I guess my point was more, I can take the bits that align with who I am or what I really want, and leave the bits that I find too exhausting or not worth it to me behind with ease, if that makes sense.

I guess it's just, i'm used to being aware, but not depressed. But even I haven't been able to dodge the LVM as of late. It's unfortunately in my nature to see the good in folks first and to WANT to, from a human aspect. I didn't want to give up, but reading that almost makes it all seem hopeless :(

Depends on the person and their social media usage. I dated a guy who RARELY used it and never posted anything about me and that was fine. I also dated a guy who requested to just change his status from "Single" about 3 months in. It didn't even need to say "In a Relationship With..." just not single. If it's someone who constantly posts their life though, friends, family, hobbies, activities, trips, food, etc...it'd be weird to NOT post your partner as well. Not saying it's gotta be one of thos…

Currently, I can say I have a solid TWO right now. One I've known for 20 years. NEVER has made any sort of pass at me whatsoever (and trust me, I've had male friends who made a pass at me on some disrespectful tip and I cut them off). Each of us has been through numerous relationships, have confided in each other and given each other advice and insight on the opposite sex in general. We drink together and play video games in our apartments and nothing has EVER felt off or romantic, no OOPS momen…

This is me all the way, only my reasons for doing it are for myself and have nothing to do with society's common standards. I don't wear makeup, my hair is natural (and my PRIDE) and I haven't been to a salon in 15 years. I paint my own nails and sometimes feel like a little high-schooler doing it but I love it. I don't wear heels or buy expensive handbags because i'm not a bag/shoes person and would rather my money go to other experiences (like travel or events!). I tried routine waxing for abo…

Having to teach yourself to uphold your own boundaries is rough...but i'm learning they keep me SAFE. It's great that you were able to watch your mom go through that and totally go the opposite direction to make sure you didn't follow the same path! I want to be fiercely protective of my own as well. I've suffered uncomfortableness for far too long!

This. I'm done being overly nice to people just because they show interest in me. Currently learning to stick by boundaries. I'm naturally trusting and caring of others, but i've been taken advantage of so much because I let my boundaries cave; they're there to protect me. Unfortunately, my mom has been my largest boundary-crusher in my life, so i've been working on her too, letting her know i'm standing up for myself now and she HAS to start respecting them. I'm putting that same energy forth w…

God I WISH I had seen this before the last guy. Because every other sub on Reddit will be like "Nooo it's totally fine that he takes days to respond" and you're over here wondering if you're expecting too much and trying to gauge his "effort" even though his Last Seen on WhatApp and Last Active on IG updated all the time. First time I ever encountered one of THOSE so I BELIEVED IT. So much time wasted analyzing. So much anxiety. So much ignoring gut feeling. NEVER AGAIN.

Chiming in as a female gamer myself (and I use the term "gamer" because it's quick an easy: one who enjoys gaming). I grew up in a family of gamers. Even as girls, we were expected to get in on it because the cousins in our generation were a family of gamers. It was, dare I say, our main hobby. I got my very own first console at age 7. As an adult, I still consider gaming one of my top tier hobbies (even though I barely clock in a few hours a week at times) because it's something I grew up with …

I feel this! I never let my bitterness over what the previous fool did to me spill over into the next relationship. I don't WANT to become some cold, heartless bitch who hates men and uses them. At my core, I WANT to give love and affection and care and make someone happy, the way a relationship is SUPPOSED to be; just have to find the right person who appreciates that shit and doesn't take it for granted!

It's so true. After looking back on past relationships and silly advice I was given, maybe a Nazi-like change was necessary. 😅 Here's an example. When I was married, I'd visit my mom with my husband sometimes, and she'd squawk at me to fix him a plate because "He worked a long hard day at work." I'd remind her A. I ALSO worked a long hard day at work as well and B. I MADE MORE MONEY THAN HIM. So by her logic someone should have been fixing ME, the BREADWINNER a damn plate LMAOOO. But of course w…

I feel you. Back in college I dated a guy who was ALL about his looks, the latest fashion, spent more time in the mirror than I did! Everyone around me gave me props because he SEEMED like such a catch. Come to find out, he was AWFUL with his finances (too busy spending too much on style) and turned out to be physically abusive as well. I now keep an eye out for that sort of thing.

Haha yes! Kindred spirit! I have made it through 33 years of life without heels or learning how to apply make-up, and my sense of "style" is as far on the opposite side of the spectrum of "sophisticated" as you can get. If I had to be stuck eating a fancy dinner with a guy I just met and didn't even like him, it would be torture for me. But you're right, I would LOVE a date that focused more on activity. Soo, I'm definitely of the unpopular opinion here, but i'm someone who DESPISES getting dressed up. I'll wear something "cute" for a date, but I hate heels, live in sneakers, so my idea of a "date" outfit is like a nice pear of jeans and cute top, a casual dress, something like that because I honestly don't give a shit about impressing a guy. Same here. 33, divorced about 5 years ago, confident about my looks and in good shape, and still finding that even OLDER men are fuckboys! (Is dating younger really the way to go?) I deleted all my OLD except Tinder during Covid because I just got so sick of it. But I also hate dating. Despite living in a dense urban area, i'm actually not too educated on the whole pickup artist thing. Is there a red flag list I should be on the lookout for? I'm curious as to how a guy is supposed to show interest/ask you out without it being a "tactic." Like I myself personally have stopped ppl to point out "I love your shirt" or something like that (men and women alike). Girl I wish I KNEW! I honestly feel like it's because she's super Christian (she's actually a pastor and everything) and they say the Bible says women are supposed to procreate or something. Ugh the WORST is when family/friends try to "pressure" you into this. I WAS married (been divorced for 5 years) and despite my husband being so undependable, my mom, best friend AND HER MOM kept pushing me to have a baby, adamantly stating that even if I didn't want them now, I would eventually, how I was running out of time, and how even though my husband was unreliable, there were tons of single moms out there. YES, THIS. I WISH I had options like that. It's so hard for me to like someone in the first place, I can't ever imagine being courted by like 3 charming, successful, intelligent, fun, kind, emotionally compatible, attractive options who ACTUALLY want to build something with me and not just get in my pants AND i'm ACTUALLY interested in because there's real chemistry, at the same damn time.

Last straw in my last "situationship," I straight up asked him if he'd ever cheated on anyone. I also feel like I fall under this label (I only learned it the past couple of years) but don't feel it's limited to hookup culture either. It is extremely rare for me to look at someone and simply find them "physically attractive." I've always been the one where the women around me will say "Check out that hot guy over there" and i'm like, where...is he...? But a man who wont stand up to his family for you = WEAK.
