Ahh, I understand. But it can still work. Don’t make it awkward, just say “Hi, we’ve been waving to each other in passing for a while and just felt weird not to know your name.” By pointing put the passing in time kind of bypasses the awkwardness of why you didn’t introduce yourself earlier.
