Talking with each other is how we figure stuff out. Call it "steel sharpening steel" if you want to be more poetic. When everybody brings their own observations, everybody brings something a little different. Cooperation is, in this case, mutually beneficial. At the end of the day, the real answer to your question is "because someone figured out that it works".

They seem to think tattoos are merit badges, just like those mileage stickers ("hey, I run, please give me attention and validation!") people like to put on their cars. A feeling of belonging is very marketable.

Seen from another angle, emotional reactions are provoked losses of control. They tend to coincide with being knocked out of your frame. It's why advertising works. It's why political campaigns all want us to be pissed off.

I think this is a next-semester extension of what OP describes here. Useful; but the shortest path to mastery probably starts with STFU, then OP's unemotional (almost said stoic!) concept, then adding style as you suggest.

Man, to be fair, trying to keep your shit straight and still have her see you as a Chad that she wants to ride is easier said than done. Other posters are giving you good answers here. Here are some Clues that might help: what do your actions, and any apparent anxieties behind them, tell your wife about how in control you are? People think about us exactly what we tell them to. Somewhere along the line you're not telling her that you are a high value male that she should deep-throat while she ha…

This guy's got it. Something inside of her will want to gain 60 pounds, conquer Candy Crush, and move as little as possible. Fight that current or you're just setting yourself up to owe Little Debbie alimony.

Second this and I'll take it a step further: once you have audio of something like this, have her 302'd. You'll then have solid records to point to.

rising false allegations of rape Can you point to data? This is believable; but it's important to be able to cite something lest we undermine our own credibility by making unsubstantiated claims. Rising or not, more than zero is alarming.

She can smash with you, and bitch to him about her day. It's perfect.

I would do anything to be in a serious relationship. Surely the women can tell. How seductive do you think that is?

In the update, you mentioned that she feels like she can't make you happy. Is that just her comfort-testing you because she is insecure, or have you been Captain Ahab about making the vision happen? It's possible you've been a little light on the Beta, one way or another.

Parenting is tough, man. Even those of us who never doubted wanting to do it are constantly challenged. It's the best thing ever, but don't take a leaky canoe into the rapids. Most women have never heard it said "Childbirth is a breeze! Nothing to it." Yet plenty still yearn to do it. Find one of them. Build up your buying power, vet her well, and you'll thank yourself later. You've got time to do this right.

How does the question of a surrogate even come up in conversation prior to establishing that she has some sort of medical issue precluding her from carrying a baby? Is this somehow becoming fashionable?

Eventually it won't matter exactly what you say because you'll be saying it from the right place. A considerate "hm!" with a "maybe so!" raised eyebrow expression; a gentle but dismissive "okay, okay..."; or a genuinely relaxed palm up with "I got this". All different approaches and, if you're the Dos Equis guy and she's a five year old that you're fond of, they could all work. That's because they all say the same thing outside of the words. But if you're feeling shame before you speak, then tha…

I agree with other posters here that the right move for you, as of now, is stfu. I qualify it like that because your narrative makes it clear that her annoyance made you feel bad, which in turn knocked you down. Particularly the part where you defended yourself makes that clear. If she's right, then it's worth recognizing that (internally) and benefitting from the insight; but her power to deactivate your nuts with shame is no good. I'm really glad that you shared this, though, because it sounds…

It sounds like you DID have some game going on; it just came naturally from a consolidated frame. (Yeah, semantics.) Good on ya!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
