Well, you have correctly identified the first step. Is that constructive enough?

I’m headed down that rabbit hole. Great stuff and thank you. I have now recognized another blind spot related to my communications or inability to effectively communicate my wants, motives, and intentions. I viewed the misinterpretation of my intent as “her problem” and something I would either have to just tolerate or decide not to tolerate. These notes are very helpful for improving communications and leading her to more productive conversations.

Poor word choice here. I was where I wanted to be in that regard. But when I have reached that point in the past I have become complacent. So I wanted to make sure I am still identifying areas for improvement. That is the kind of flow state I seek.

Normally, when I meal prep on Sunday, I run out on Thursday, which makes sticking to the food plan more difficult. I have identified this as a trigger point for failure, so I went to the store on the way home from the gym Thursday morning. Then at lunch, I cooked 2.5 lbs of chicken on the grill and cooked 4 m…

A realistic goal is a good step. I did think “ripped” was probably not the right term. More like “not fat.” 15% is a good goal. And I like the plan for dealing with these situations. Yes I do have this ruminating obsessive personality. Food/booze are not necessarily a coping mechanism, but a comfort zone. It’s my “go with the flow” default. It is simply a manner of owning my decisions. Maybe I do decide I’m not willing to do what it takes to get there or that it’s not worth it. I do not believe …

I am going to go a little stream of consciousness here, but these are definitely related on a few fronts. First, I have done many things for myself since November 2020 - new truck, new clothes, Invisalign, gun, taking charge of my finances, being more assertive, saying “no” much more often, etc. But for some reason, I'm still blocking myself from getting into tip top physical shape. I have spent a lot of time in the gym and am far stronger than I was, but still fat. I have not been able to do wh…

You are relieved that you weren't judged. This shit had NOTHING to do with your mental point of origin. Your words betray you here. Lie to us all you want, it won't help you here. I should not have said I was not afraid. You are correct, that is untrue. I was afraid but did it anyway. I get this. It’s something I continue to struggle with - the difference between admitting to myself that I am flawed and admitting it to others. But both are important. Hiding flaws from either is nice guy behavior. Hiding it from myself is a precursor to hiding it from others. Now that I say this, it’s the same. I see that admitting it to myself is the most important. Fuck whether others think me flawed. Not important.

Yes, right ... but here, my ego reared its ugly head and got defensive. In the moment, it wasn't really the content, but the tone, attitude, etc. that got to me. I recognize that doesn't change the fact that I was not able to deflect the behavior away from impacting my frame. I was not good in the moment - needed time to reflect, plan, etc. - exactly the type of over analysis I'm fighting. Shitty attitude = no libido. In reality, I am afraid of rejection, so I only initiate when she’s not acting shitty due to better chance of success. Ego protection through taking my ball (or balls) and going home under the guise of not really wanting sex because of her shitty attitude. I’m operating in the wrong frame and then trying to spin it. Is that what you are getting at? Because that seems pretty spot on when I step back from it.

You are dead on. And I really haven’t lost any weight since February. It is pathetic. I did stop posting my lifts because I keep injuring myself. My age might be an excuse for that, but not the weight loss. I am at least 24% body fat, which is just fat. Go time.

I have watched a few before (on WISNIFG) and they were helpful. Which series would you recommend at this point? My main problem with diet is giving in on weekends. Planning ahead would be temporary fix at this point. In the long run, I just need to be an oak and stand by my principles. These goals and habits that I am working on right now eventually just need to become a part of who I am - a fabric of my being. I have similar thoughts on how to overcome fears. Very valid question. What I haven’t been doing is making a plan and then anticipating temptation with a plan for overcoming it. Much of this lack of discipline also stems from my continued need for external validation and fear. Very good question. I do. I love myself, but I still carry a lot of guilt - toxic shame. And I now get pissed at myself when I don’t feel like I am making progress toward my goals. Maybe I am in an anger phase at myself. Always thought the anger phase was directed outward, but I’m pissed at me and my default reaction or response when I feel this way is to look outward for validation. I’m in my head. Thanks. The other thing I thought about - and I know that we don’t normally want to do this - is to use the smith machine. I did this before and found it helped my form and then I went back to free squats and had a better time keeping the bar traveling in a straight line.

Just when you think you are getting after it in the gym, your first 60 DoD starts and then you “really” get after it!! I was jacked after reading these posts today. So I cramped up, almost passed out - but did not stop. Then I came home and murdered a half a chicken. I am jacked for this. LFG!!! Lifting is definitely my most consistent area. I haven’t missed a workout since November and have flat out said no to a lot of things I would have put in front of lifting before. Doing a three day split …

The responses that I received from you and others confirmed how bad my situation was at the time. I believe you told me to lift at night the next week like my life depended on it. I took that to heart - 3 times a week - at least 2 at night - every week since then. It is the one thing I have been consistently doing through this process. Now my diet is getting better and I'm losing fat as well. My other favorite comment from my OYS number 1 was "Dude, put down the sandwich." I think about that any…

I’ve had a lot of fear hindering my progress lately, which I have talked about in my last few OYS. Fear of success, fear of rejection, fear of lacking or losing external validation, and fear of losing my wife/family. Looking back it has been a theme for me for a long time. HOA pried it out of me a few weeks back - that I was afraid of something. I am now realizing how unnecessary it is to be afraid of any of this.

True. I do not have frame. As for vacation sex, you are also completely right, which is why I tried to remove that covert contract from my mind and have sex on my terms. So I didn’t really push it on vacation and tried to just have fun with no expectation. I could have just had sex if I wanted and not had sex if I did not instead of deciding ahead of time. As for the emotional outbursts, I have not been giving in and have been mostly ignoring them, which is why I’m so pissed that I caved in resp…

Thanks STB. I had that same thought after reading some of the other posts this week. It doesn’t have to be mind-blowing all the time. I can just have sex the way I want. Sometimes that’s “vanilla.” This is another problem that stems from watching too much porn in addition to seeking validation through sex.

Well, you sent me down a mental rabbit hole today. I literally just put together a list of 13 reasons. They all relate to things I do or don’t do that make me a weak ass bitch. I think the point here is that I am not going to change the way I think of myself through thoughts or by stating my intent. It is through action. I see myself through the same lens as others see me - not based on what I say, but by what I do. One of my favorite quotes has always been “what you do shouts so loudly in my ea…

On the micro level I am afraid of the immediate conflict. On the macro level I am afraid to walk away or I am afraid that she will walk away. Upon reflection, I am unnecessarily afraid of a lot of things in my relationship.

And deep down I know that the sex was even better for me because she liked it. Still validation seeking, especially when it comes to sex. And I am still in her frame in other areas - still think about her reactions to my decisions. Trying to eliminate these thought processes. I seem to think I can make these changes without rocking the boat too much - and I care about that why? Disgusting is a good description.

I am posting my squats and deadlifts. I will start posting my BB rows as well. Bench and military are way off due to slow build back from surgery for a torn pec. I hear you. Thing is this is working for me right now. I’ve had a hard time finding something where I lose weight and I stick with it. Eating basically the same things and in the same amounts everyday makes it easy for me. I do plan on mixing in some steak, whole eggs, etc. especially after I get to 185. I also hear you on dreading the chicken and egg whites - I frankly thought I would have hit that wall already, but it’s not that bad at this point. Thanks!

I have been thinking a lot about this. I have caught myself not doing things because I used to do them and they were “beta.” But with some of them, my mindset was beta, but the action itself is not, provided it is coming from genuine want to rather than, as you said, “should” or because it is expected or to avoid a shit storm or to placate. The idea is to make positive changes in my behavior and mentality and frame will develop organically. I see this as the value in sticking to the basics - lif…
