I also have to say that I resent your characterization of “impressionable people” in academia. I’m proud of my college education and will not apologize for the opinions it has helped me form. My parade/fence metaphor shows three people who did NOT have equality of opportunity (in this case the opportunity to watch the parade). -3	Equal pay for unequal work and unequal entry standards So the example I used is definitely an oversimplification, really useful only to explain the difference between the two terms “equality” and “equity.” I would argue that on a macro society level, true equity would be people’s earnings commensurate to their worth to society, thus allowing those with the potential for the greatest contribution (true leaders and innovators, nearly all of whom are men) the means with which to contribute.
