It's true, I'll never understand military people. The only thing I'd do is a sailing / coast guard kinda job where you have 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, so you don't have to buy a house, you just sleep 2 weeks on a boat, and then travel for 2 weeks, worst case just have an RV parked somewhere. I know someone who does it and he travels to a new country every 2 weeks and gets amazing retirement, and most of the time he's just transporting scientists to do ocean and environmental research.

You can't really know what time is wasted or not because if you knew better you wouldn't waste it.
