> On which front, there's a point where having a list of hangups goes beyond simply not enjoying the one act and instead shows you're not attracted to either the female body or at least your current partner. this is such a weird thing to worry about?? i mean not a man and not straight but like, at least within like lesbian communities theres like usually a million different subcategories and hard lines of ways you can want to interact sexually and no one reallyyyyyy questions it. i mean at most …

i dont think thats what the article (the one written by the UN) is proposing though? like it says individual cases should obviously be handled identically. but that that doesnt mean preventative measures and stuff within wider government policy cant be tailored towards certain demographics.

Furthermore, CEDAW explicitly opposed the Dutch approach of giving equal dignity to male and female victims: I was curious about this part and i traced the article down to basically this paragraph Law enforcement agencies and judicial organs should indeed pursue all individual perpetrators of violence, whether they are men or women, with equal dedication. Yet, this does not prevent the adoption of a policy framework, which, firstly, acknowledges the fact that three distinct categories (men’s vio…

"Androgyny, which some feminists promote as a pacifist blueprint for sexual utopia, belongs to the contemplative rather than active life. It is the ancient prerogative of priests, shamans, and artists. Feminists have politicized it as a weapon against the masculine principle. Redefined, it now means men must be like women and women can be whatever they like. Androgyny is a cancellation of male concentration and projection. Prescriptions for the future by bourgeois academics and writers carry the…

well yeah thats why i said perceived as, i guess if you got down in the weeds and asked her about her thoughts on "straight passing" queer men it'd get really ugly real quick. i said it was gross in my first comment lol i'm not tryna defend it just tryna break down (what i see as) the thought process. wdym the type of feminist to think less of bisexual men?

it sounds like the point your friend was making seems to be that being perceived as a cishet male confers some systemic advantage, and if you want to disclaim that advantage you have to actively not be perceived as a cishet male which is gross on the face of it and non-cishet men are generally treated much worse than cishet women anyway but I guess its somewhat coherent?

I feel like noone points out, using these ai chatbots isnt mutually exclusive with having irl relationships. I had a pretty unhealthy relationship with character ai a few years back, and the degree to which I felt I was hooked on it, didnt exactly vary with whether i was or wasnt in a relationship at that moment. Its not even like I used it because my relationships were unfulfilling or whatever. Imo the challenge is less like real person vs fake person and more like real person vs fake impossibl…

Women have been playing as male characters forever? if like 10% of new media coming out featured men and they couldn't play as themself in anything that might be something worth complaining about, but the actual situation is about the opposite (and you do see women complaining about it sometimes).

> Trans men were socailised as men, and as such they benefit form misogyny rather than suffer from it. I feel like people tend to forget that trans people dont just, pop out of thin air. No, not all of them were socialised as their gender (most of them probably aren't), some of them will never present as their gender at all (a lot of them probably won't), some of them will never even figure out their identities. trans people can possess an entire length of experience that might be ongoing of pre…

okay i'm gonna like, pull the escape hatch. i don't believe its possible to argue about actions/inactions taken by a loose and loosening affiliation of people when none of the people who're actually doing those things are present in this conversation. but i do believe you'd find like much more common ground than you expect? idk it sounds like you're describing closer to the viewpoints of hate groups like gendercritical or whatever than like, the average user of idk r/AskFeminists.

im not, really sure who you're arguing against here? i mean theres the ideology and there's the movement right? i assume, most people here have the same overarching ideology as most people who'd describe themselves as feminists but the "movement" (as much as it even exists now lol i feel like it kinda diffused after the 2010s), cant really do everything at once

i mean i dont think theres really any mens issues that need to be centered in feminism cause thats, i mean kinda on the face of it yeah. probably i assume most feminists dont want to not solve DV or circumsision or whatever but its kinda why doesnt superman stop the joker right its out of the movements jurisdiction. men dont have all their rights thats stupid they literally have a little ritual and tap and dance in some countries to remind men they dont have all their rights (draft, or registeri…

Actually that might be close to it I think? Although maybe the other direction is a bit more useful to look at it (women who feel uncomfortable in a moreso provider role) since the direction of societal values (strength/power = valuable in general) aligns more. Like theres just a fundamental sense of it being wrong as in not who I'm supposed to be. Irregardless of circumstance. And a bit of an indignity. Maybe indignity is a closer feeling than grossness?

its not external. i appreciate heroic demigodlike men (and women ofc) in stories and irl, theres nothing repulsive or sinister about them. (well you could get into an argument about the patriarchy or whatever but most people who're strong and protective irl don't think about this and are just good people) and its not exactly the expectations? like i dont think itd be hard for me to sorta play that role. and i feel like i know what it consists of sorta from cultural osmosis. its more, me specific…

as someone amab (enby), thinking of the "demigod" role the way you put makes my spine tingle with grossness. eugh. its not an ideal for me in any way shape or form. i dont want to be that kind of person at all. ive been pushed to that role by others every so often too. and it makes me viscerally uncomfortable. which makes it, interesting trying to identify with other amab people who feel the opposite way. its a "common sense fact" ive never questioned that "men" are "supposed" to want to be that…

what other points? i already agree with you that men gay or straight generally find more masculinity is desirable in men idk what the lesbian thing adds to the conversation (even if their preferences for women applied to men 1:1 they're still just a subset of all women) it feels more like you're fixating on it rather than me the point of contention between us is that I don't think women in general find masculinity in men desirable to the extent that men in general do and you haven't really given…

you're arguing about what people want to see in men by looking at what a subset of women, want to see in women. i don't see how me being a tad dismissive of that is "ridiculous" for the record i'd agree, that probably there is a decent preference from most *men* towards more masculinity in men (that mostly manifests internally but creates external pressure too). my own anecdotal perspectives just tell me that doesn't apply the same way towards the other half of the population and you haven't rea…

i mean gay men preferring more masculine men is agreeing with my point that masculinity in that way appeals to men more so. and i dont really, get what the google link is trying to prove i can't even find an actual answer to your question of "do lesbians admire masculine men" within the first page (probably because thats not a question many people find themselves asking?)

i feel like, theres a citation needed there as to "more masculinity in men is always more appealing to every demographic"? like have you actually looked at media that draws the female gaze? anecdotally i'd say it feels like men being highly masculine is an aesthetic that appeals to other men more so tbh.

yea im not trying to invalidate what you've seen, just sharin my single data point cause it kinda seemed like you were basically saying i dont exist lol? I do believe there is a correlation between men's degree of adherence to their gender and the cultural devaluing of manhood. YMMV? as a amab and (currently) enby person i feel comfortable with the label because i feel much better appearing/presenting androgynously and idk if theres much more to it. it was a pretty casual and natural thing. i never felt alienated from "maleness". never really felt as though maleness impacted my life significantly at all tbh. it's not like i had undue expectations of masculinity placed on me i was/am a skinny nerd fully content being that. i've never "wanted" to be more masculine than i…

military drafts are probably like one of the most fucked up things that are regularly done to people by institutions - and i readily admit I would discard most all of my values and philosophies to avoid having it happen to me so like, from that lens it feels hard to fault feminists that are mostly women in a vague sense for not pushing the issue, though I guess it'd at least be an honest thing for like general.. thought leaders (of feminism? is that even really a thing now after the 2010s?) to a…

tbf actually reading the guardian article instead of cherry picking a quote. The main crux of it seems to be that, while it may be reasonable for a woman going into the workforce around now to retire at the same age as men, changing the retirement age rn is gonna be changing it for women who went into work in the 50s/60s where... Yeah I doubt they had career prospects just as good as men, it doesn't seem too unfair to give them an earlier retirement. Altho I will concur it is a really bad look- …

It should never be played off of course, but its understable that it is and its not an exclusively gender related thing. Even in gay relationships people are going to take Joe the 6 foot tall bodybuilder less seriously than Jake the skinny dude. Of course, power dynamics exist outside of strength but its harder to see the dynamics between a boss and a worker with their job on the line than say "oh why didnt they just push them off dur"

That's exactly because of social conditioning. If you asked a man in the early 20th century what he thought about his wife going to play football or whatever "manly" shit he would have the exact same reaction to a women watching her husband cry.

It's not a team sport we're playing here. Rights aren't a zero sum game, if they gain rights you don't lose rights. And there's no evidence that women are inherently better at organising, where did you get that from?

It's more of a personal thing than a societal thing if you're talking in terms of arousal. I mean there are plenty of men who get turned on by a women led relationship and vice versa.

I can't seem to understand what you're trying to say here? There was nothing in my post mentioning trying to get anyone to negotiate attraction to anyone? I was more so speaking about the breaking down of gender roles and allowing men to take part in more feminine activites instead of forcing women to leave masculine ones.

!delta Thanks for the well written perspective change. I've never thought about it from the point of view of a society collapsing before. At least for me personally, I believe that perception of an unstable equilibrium is caused by the fact that the barriers have broken for women to become more masculine, but the barriers for men have stayed up. What makes you think recreating the barriers would be a better solution than breaking down the last one?

It's a bit weird conflating "I'm going to make you wait" as a weird test/game And "I'm going to wait" as in not having sex with someone you don't know well. The first is kinda fucked up, the second is understandable. I mean as a man I also wouldnt immediately fucc

I'll have to respectfully disagree with the rest of them here and say that I personally have never felt the need to have sex. The emotional connection is still a need but I will absolutely not get in a committed relationship with someone I'm not attracted to. And on that front, I've definitely felt lack of attraction.

Did you miss the entire feminism movement? Did you miss the fact that it succeeded? Also, going back to the past would be far worse for both sides. Most of mens rights issues would not be solved, in fact they might even be justified under the law. The only difference would be that men would have advantages in a completely different area.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/01/20 12:45 AM

The whole reason that women becoming more masculine doesn't affect much is because of how much of a push there was. If a women tried to get into sports back in the day she'd get laughed at similarly to how some women would reject a guy for crying. It would take a similar push taking as much effort as the early feminism movements for men to normalise it.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/01/20 12:41 AM

I agree that women are sometimes given a lower standard than men. But I strongly disagree that the solution is to lower the bar for men because some of these things are genuinely problematic. Id rather increase the bar for women tbh.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/01/20 11:49 PM

It's not the inviting with a double motive really. It's more of the "here's an amazing opportunity" coupled with the condition that you have to have a relationship to get it. Helping with homework is a minor thing that doesn't even really help you that much. While an art exhibit is something that can significantly boost your career. Withholding the first does nothing. Withholding the second removes an opportunity.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/01/20 11:47 PM

I mean "sleep with me" or else "miss an opportunity to advance your career" is pretty manipulative. Basically telling you that if you want to advance in your career you have to sleep with her, how do you not see that as manipulative? It's essentially prostitution.

As a man myself I very much disagree with the "biology dictates the sexual market" concept. Biology dictates the sexual market as much as biology dictates our diets. I mean yeah kinda? But you don't see people eating raw meat and sticks of butter because their biology favours it. Personally, its more of a roll of the dice who ill like more. Less of a number crunching game.
