What's your point? You think the guy should have brought the dog to an emergency vet and pay thousands of dollars because the dog puked after eating dinner? That every wish of your adult kid should be fulfilled immediately regardless of the cost and in face of reason?

The dog is 10 and the son is 19. That means he likely had it since 9 years old and is viewed as the family dog. He did mention that he didn't want to take it at 8pm to an emergency vet because the dog puked after dinner. That's a normal response.

OP is perfectly fine having a dog. You don't need to take your dog to an emergency vet because it threw up after eating dinner once.

What are you on about? It's not invalidating someone's feelings to tell them you're going to wait a bit to see if the dog actually requires a vet visit, and if his adult son feels so strongly about it he's welcome to take the dog to an emergency vet and cover the costs.

seriously, what's up with reddit. Your adult, 19 year old son left the dog outside overnight.

Hi son in 19, not 9. Emergency vet visit is thousands of dollars, that this family realistically just doesn't have for a condition that is non urgent. Dogs puke.

tell me about it. I was gainfully employed for 12 straight years (my entire adult professional life) with a great salary. Got laid off and my wife stopped all intimacy, absolutely 0 for 15 months. I had several offers come in without applying and ended up taking a job that paid +60% my previous salary within 3 months of being laid off. Our sex life still hasn't recovered.

He's not getting 52K clear and free, he has to give up the equity in his home and find new living arrangements likely at a higher costs. If the situation was reversed, and a wife and husband agreed for the wife to go through a program earning less for the potential to earn more for their family in the future, I think alimony for a period of time that reflects the shared burden of that risk is reasonable.

They both agreed a career change with a pay cut now for a future pay increase would be worth it for them as a team. Why should he have to hold the loss on that risk they took together?

While I agree with all of this, it took a ton of effort to understand what you were trying to write out.

I've never seen any claim other than drugging and robbing. Can you provide a source?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
