Let's put it this way. If you met a friend you haven't seen in a decade comes up to you and asked "conservative or liberal?", most people would find this rude, cause they will be judged for what their answer would be. Again, these types of questions are extremely personal and asking them is rude if you guys are not close friends.

In this case they haven't stayed friends since they got a 10 year gap. Asking someone incredibly personal questions after a decade of not seeing each other is quite rude
