The gender bias used to be far more in favour of men. Men could divorce and take the children, women could not. A woman, upon marriage, would lose all rights to her property - it would be owned by husband. Who would then also be legally within his right to rape and beat her. I think that it's a) incorrect to underestimate the amount of sexual harrassment that goes on and b) unfair to generalise all women as likely to pull that just because they were rejected or a relationship broke up. While I'm sure it does happen, most women really are not that vindictive.

If the research had found that it was better to entrust men with the food supply, the results would most likely be judged inconclusive and more research would be done to prove otherwise. Nothing wrong with studying women's issues. They should also offer men's studies. Hmm I did pause at the male nanny and I hate myself for it. I actually think that a male nanny would be preferred in some circumstances, such as if the father of the children was not around, or if you have mostly boys.
