I’ve just recently left a decades long marriage for some of the reasons you described. I fought hard for the marriage for many years and over time I mentally detached for my own mental health. I’m Going into my 4th month on my own and we’re just starting the divorce process. I never feel great about my new situation but it’s a lot better than staying.. I’m discovering a lot about myself and I’m able to have a clearer perspective of what my marriage was. In my situation it was never going to get …

Couldn't agree more, there's also endless clips & comments on TT. To woman we're babies who always whine and complain, want their mommies and can't do anything for ourselves. We can't cook (we can) we can't clean (we can) we can't help raise the children (we do) Never in these comments do they give any credence to anything the man does include being the breadwinner handling the Maintenace and hands on / heavy work or dealing with their mood swings. I never realized just how much of a useless gen…

$18 in 1991 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $41.72 today, an increase of $23.72 over 33 years.

It's the sins of thy father ... men of the 60s-70s tended to abandon their wives, families and houses to move onto greener pastures, leaving the wife to cope with no/limited income and child care ..... fast forward to today, men have to pay exorbitant amounts for the right to divorce

This works both ways. Without an alimony payment he can now save that monthly amount, invest it and end up with a lot more in the future. Hey, if everything plays out right his investments could exceed what her payout was

NJ does grant permanent Alimony but depending on the circumstances, generally ends at payors FRA, usually 67

Funny how so many of us seem to be in the same boat. I read constant post of guys who are separated or divorced but I'm betting there's 5x that amount who are in a holding pattern, waiting for whatever event to pass before pulling the trigger. I have taken many steps to assure a safe landing outside the marriage, but pulling off the band-aid is something I'm not looking forward to

I saw the Vid just last night. The guy is 70, claims to have 8 GFs and living his best life. Yes he's an ATM to them, but who cares, he's 70 & having fun. You cant take your money with you, more power to him

At his age, defending on her income, he will undoubtedly pay her alimony until his FRA unless he can negotiate a buyout in the divorce settlement

This is my list also, I would forgo any long term real estate investment, go with a rental. You dont know how you'll feel in a few years and you dont want to be locked into anything long term. real estate takes 3-5 years to break even on or the most part Side hustle/business is the only way to go to rebuild as quickly as possible Along with diversified investments I'd go a fair % of cash/CDs in the scenario where you need immediate funds, you dnt want to have to cash out equities or crypto

This is a horrible post, please forgive me. ,,,,,, I'm not a lawyer but due to her medical conditions you're in for lifetime alimony as well as CS for the next 10-15 years. If you barely survive financially now, You'll have a difficult time with 2 separate residences. If her health is that bad that's she's being hospitalized every year and she's not taking care of herself, buy a life insurance policy on her and wait it out. If you're going 100% sexless you have a right to have your needs met. Do…

IDK if this will help but I'm in the same boat except much older, kids are grown & our overall wealth has increased significantly in the past few years, the marriage absolutely sucks but for some reason I can't pull the trigger to end it. I believe there's a comfort factor to it... your house .. your environment,... this will all end once the divorce starts .... as for your kids, the cream rises to the top. If you're a good man & father your kids will realize it Wishing you the best

My favorite time of the evening is when she goes to bed early and I have an hour or 2 by myself. The weekends are marathons, if it wasn't for yardwork and sports on TV I'd never make it through a weekend

I'm pre-divorce and currently in therapy discovering just how badly she has manipulated me throughout the years. Yes, I allowed it to happen, but it's never too late to change course. Narcissism is a tricky thing when you're too close. You need to step back and look at what's truly happening to realize how severe the situation is

Question for Row6066 & others, is it best to leave the home during the divorce proceedings or hang in there? I'm feeling it will be easier to direct the narrative from inside the house as well as not losing access to things you may not be able to get back in the house to get. But then again, they're only material possessions and divorces can drag on.

67 I believe unless you can prove to the court you’re incapable of working any longer

It’s my understanding that alimony ends at FRA. For most of us is 67. I agree that’s a long time but at 59/60 it’s not forever. It’s 7 years

I said this to my Wife 5 years ago when our marriage started going south….. no one is coming to save us….. 5 years later we’re a shell of our former selves and all but done

I agree. I’m on day 2 of another boring monotonous weekend where we are not only not talking, we're not even in the same room. Being alone on my own can’t be any worse than this

So Far, only a few months in, it's helped me get out of my own head at least. Not every session is a breakthrough but it's another person to vocalize all the crap that's in your head that you cant tell anyone else I highly recommend it

Gonna reply tongue in cheek. Married 4 decades 4 wonderful kids. 8 (and counting grandkids) Great career, paid off house, vacation home on the beach and a huge nest egg. I've been contemplating divorce for a while now and I may be close to pulling the trigger. In my situation we both changed, but she had some severe mental issues rear their ugly head in the past few years. Will I be divorced, Yes. Will I have a lifetime of memories and people who benefited from my marriage. Absolutely
