It might be due to the common themes in this thread - people who have had it done without incident feel defensive when the practice is discussed negatively by those they would otherwise identify with. Your relatives are really more concerned about what you think of their circumcised state and not your child's uncircumcised one. Maybe? Just thinking out loud as the US really is the odd one out in the western world.

Anecdotal I know but the few Americans I have discussed this with (used to live in Houston) were circumcised without complaint but did not intend to have their children chopped. The two who had it done said it was the wife's pressure to do it which made it happen.

Genuine question to American parents in this thread - was the circumcision included in your insurance? What was the additional cost? Or is it part of the package?
