Pay isn't the only factor, but it's a big one. If the salary was right, then a mechanical engineer could teach 10th grade algebra. Personality traits aside, on paper that is a very high quality math teacher. Now we kind of get into the problem of Americans depending on public education to literally raise their kids. No teacher no matter how good will be able to address a kid not doing homework and his parents not caring he doesnt do it. And just to be sure, you are not suggesting that higher pay…

OK this ones basic economics. If you pay higher salaries, you attract higher quality. It's the reason non-profits hire CEO's at six figures. You don't want some rookie numbskull running your business into the ground, non-profit or not. Not saying you are wrong, but the reasoning is off. We get low tier educators because we(through taxes funding public education) pay educators low tier wages.
