There is some logic to this. We're in a sexual arms race and women are on the lookout for impostor Chads who have changed their mutable characteristics (gained muscle, made more money, read books on game). They've been tricked before so they downgraded these characteristics and upgraded immutable ones (height, penis length). Of course in the fog of their solipsism they cannot see the hypocrisy but at least you can make some sense of their illogic.

I can relate with this. I felt I was losing control of my future as things went on, especially into that 2nd year. What's funny is that there were no outside influences like you listed - not her mother, not her friends, it was just the nature of a relationship and you being merely a cog in her machine. The machine is her grand plan, drawn up years before she met you. So know that even without her friends, mother, etc you probably would have ended up in the same place.
