Surround yourself with good people. Friends, neighbors, co-workers, family - anyone who you can trust and who will have your back. Granted that will not be a very long list of people and do not be surprised if your buddy you've known for decades suddenly gets more distant because his wife doesn't like you. I've found that my survival instinct helped with that. When I started noticing the laws and application of those laws slanted against men, when I saw how easy it was to have your life ruined on a whim, I knew I was much happier single than trying to fulfill someone's large range of contradictory fantasies. In my place of work, there are plenty of white women who are capable in their tech role (programmers, product managers, quality assurance) and I have no problem with them. Of course, we have no diversity quota so they actually have to be competent like the rest of the men and get by on merit. I think it all depends. The women I work with are competent and hard working. Of course, our tech company has no gender diversity quota so the people in the office are there because they can do the job well. I seem to remember reading a study showing that about 15-18% of women tend to take on "male" interests. That could be where the competent women in skill- and results-based jobs come from. Men perform a larger amount of high risk crimes like robbing banks,muggings, etc. Women perform a larger amount of petty crimes like stealing makeup from a store, putting things in their purse or baby stroller, and initiate domestic violence at the same rate but are charged for it much less. It's more likely that a higher number of men have been diagnosed with NPD. With women, a lot of the behavior is normalized, accepted, and encouraged by society. Combine that with the view that women have less control over their emotions (while simultaneously being more "in touch" with them) and you can see why people would make excuses for a woman's behavior and she would be less likely to seek professional help.

Keep in mind there is a stigma against single men adopting. You will likely have more frequent visits from the adoption agency to check on you and make sure you aren't abusing the child. The only reasoned criticism I've heard about the earning gap is that women-dominated jobs are valued less than men-dominated jobs. Of course there are reasons for this like a larger labour supply - just look at teaching and childcare - than there is demand. On an unrelated note I am annoyed that professional athletes are paid far more than doctors and nurses. I would rather a greater reward go to people who save lives than people who are interesting to watch on TV.
