Because nature needed a mechanism to filter bad genes in order for us to evolve faster. Human beings aren't monogamous naturally but polygamous based on an alpha system, same goes for hominids before us. I suggest you read medicine neuroanatomy books, they are not that hard to understand and you can find many online because neuroscience and neuroanatomy applied to another topic by an author that is no expert is usually distorted to fit an agenda or thesis. There's also the field of neuropsychology, which you can read about but usually there are bits of that as well as evolutionary psychology in neuroanatomy based books anyway. The one I almost finished reading is found free on Libgen.
