Even then they still shouldn't use the 21% figure in the original tweet. As an aside: it is really hard to control for every single factor (like preference for a flexible work schedule), so even if some small gap remains it doesn't necessarily show discrimination.

I guess womens greater part in child care plays into that. I wonder what the result would be if we somehow accounted for that. Child care seems to me like a form of contribution as well.

It seems to me that "being more/less likely to get harm done to you" is the axis that you would measure privilige on as opposed to measuring which gender does more harm.

It's very hard to establish gender bias in an objective way. After all, women typically work fewer hours than men, in large part to spend additional time raising children, so we would expect them to be more likely to obtain custody of those children, and less likely to make as much as men, both of which are true. In the source I linked it was mostly primary custody that the fathers got. The majority of cases seem to be settled without court involvement at all.

Thanks, studies like the second one you linked are pretty much what I was looking for. What happened 40 years ago is completely irrelevant. Sure, it would still be interesting to know the truth in order to have a reasonable worldview. I mean wouldn't you think that it should generally have gotten better over the years, not worse? In Germany, like in the US and many other places, we have women in the military. But as with everything else, it is their choice. Men have to spend a year of their lives in mandatory service, women have to do fuck all. (There is an alternative for men who cannot in good conscience pick up arms. They can do a slightly longer "civil service" and help out in social programms and the like. Again, women don't have to.) Didn't this change lately? As far as I know men don't have to do it anymore.
