I’m a few years in. Leveled up my career. Bought and paid off a new car, bought my own home, have a near-perfect credit rating. I have family nearby, close friends, pets who are well loved and fed. I am fully independent and want for nothing. I still struggle with boundaries and self-esteem, but I now understand that the traumas that caused them were not my fault. I have very little info on the ex but just enough to be assured he is still a loser.

During the last tantrum he threw at me (the penultimate one was because I refused him a cookie. No, really) I saw my last fuck fly out the window, fall five stories and hit the ground with a splat. I went to stay with a friend, returning only long enough to inform him that I was returning to my home country (yes, I was abroad.) Before leaving I worked my network and secured a good job back home. He left on vacation and during that time not only did I pack up and ship my belongings, I did a facto…

I am living proof. I found myself doomed in a terrible marriage far from home and followed disaster until I could not take it anymore. Then I arose and LEFT in spectacular fashion. That was the moment my whole life changed. I have succeeded beyond what I thought possible. It’s never too late: any moment is a good moment to shift gears and go full FDS.

I state it as “she’s the one who was dumb enough to fuck me” and understood the root as self-loathing. Tragic, but not our tragedy.

No such thing as too old, too late, too far from home, too deeply invested. You may be concerned with what people will think but you will be amazed what you actually hear once you are on the right path.

When I was building and filling garden beds a couple of neighborhood guys stopped and helped me out. They spent a couple hours wheeling in soil and helping build the beds. We all had fun and I sent them home with produce. I don’t think it would have occurred to my ex to help. He shrank from physical labor. Masculine energy is doing shit and not whining about it

The good news is you can reclaim your power and dump him at any time. You can look back over a long relationship full of red flags but if you make that decision and rebuild a better life, you can be proud. His behavior is on him.

You can easily see how they are at war with them selves. Some behave as if they had a toggle switch: when they momentarily forget their need to dominate they’re decent and enjoyable, but when they catch themselves doing that they flip back to reminding you who’s “boss.” It’s needless, exhausting, and the cause of their own demise. My best memories of my nexes are the moments when they were so absorbed in the moment that they lost sight of the struggle to dominate.

According to him I was the problem until I said, “Ok bro if I’m the problem, let me solve that problem for you“ and split. Then it was all woe-is-me and I-loved-her. Nah he’s just pissed I went off-script. He has a glass head.

Can corroborate. Source: Ex bullied me to within an inch of my life, I dumped him spectacularly, he moaned about it to anyone who would listen for years afterward . Now is lying his fool head off on OLD looking for a new mark.

If he knew, it was deliberate boundary-pushing. Whatever you stated as a non-negotiable for yourself, he would have tested.

I had to stop my nex in his tracks when he tried to form an alliance with the therapist against me (“she has these ‘moods’” said in a whiny victimized voice.) I stopped him, named the behavior, and stated I refused to be tagged “the crazy one.” He quit counseling shortly thereafter.

This happened while the girls were in their teens too, a particularly sensitive developmental time. Imagine the betrayal of their trust in men right at the start of womanhood. Despicable.

Aggressive tantrums indicating a knowledge that he’s losing his own game is right on the money. My last ex towards the end threw massive tantrums over the most bizarre little things, like cookies. Once it reached that point I started planning my exit.

I left my ex five years ago and in that time I doubled my net worth, raised my credit score to near perfect, bought a house, bought and paid off a new car. I learned an efficient freestyle swim stroke, started lifting weights, and, since the pandemic, took up gardening. I made many new friends and grew closer to family. Him, well, he wrote a few websites and is looking for a woman 20 years his junior.

“I can’t see likes, send a message,” common on OKC, is the ultimate low effort and a hard pass.

If you’re on Instagram, start following some modern sewers. @criswoodsews is good. If you follow just one the algorithm will throw dozens at you. Inspiration aplenty .

I’m spending a quiet Christmas with my son, ordering in food, watching TV and doing some sewing projects (aprons for everyone!). It is a little lonely but it’s also quiet and bullshit-free.

I married an LVM disguised as a HVM. Towards the end he began hanging around a homeless guy half his age who showed him where to score hashish. He was stoned all the time and began throwing tantrums. One night when he was out to score with his buddy, I asked him to buy more butter for my holiday baking and he blew it off. When the cookies came out, he bounced over happily to help himself and I pulled the baking sheet away. Don’t help when asked, don’t get a reward. He blew up in front of friends…
