cheques is one of the funniest American anachronisms to me (ok, "funny" might not be the right word, more like fascinating). The rest of the world stopped using them pretty much completely by the late 80s, but the US, for all of their advancements, is still stuck in the 80s when it comes to that particular aspect of life.
