You sneak in here each week. I also have some trauma history, which has made sex difficult for me. For years, I couldn’t cum from sex, and constantly found myself turning to pornography and fantasy. I think the running and weight training is helpful for you because it helps ground you to your physical body. FWIW I recently reread the sex portion of NMMNG and found it helpful, in particular, the mindful masterbation activity to connect me with my own body and present. I realize more and more how …

<Not pushing hard enough. Took some advice autistically, rarely if ever lifted to failure. Also ego, afraid of looking weak or needing a spot. Trying something new: all working sets are 8-10reps until failure. Then drop ~10% weight, more 8-10rep sets until failure. Then that movement is complete. This may not be the best long-term strategy, but it will help me short-term to train myself to give 100%.> FWIW I prioritize this above all else. Beside lighter weight warmu-ups I’m taking each as close…

Your past few OYS feel kind of vague and stagnant to me. I’m not sure if a lot is just not happening for you, or perhaps if you are minimizing interactions and details. you mentioned some heightened interaction with your wife that exposed her claws coming out to you, in a pst OYS but it wasn’t specific enough to elicit direct feedback. Also the 17% body fat what are you doing there? Are you still aiming for 10-12% Bf and bulk/cut cycles? What is your commitment to yourself as far as goals/timeli…

The last fight (probably most the fights we have) over some of the dumbest shit imaginable so I’m not engaging in them. I will acknowledge her feelings, and to some extent I think offer lifelines; however, I don’t want to be the monkey banging my cymbals as loud as possible any longer. At this point, the pattern as I see it is that my wife withdraws and weaponizes sex expecting me to apologize. I don’t really want to play that game so I’m just trying to find things to occupy my time, figure me o…

I feel like I’ve been stuck on this as well. There were several weeks were I made comments similar to the above, and at the time and believed them to be true and things were trending better. However, I eventually got a comment to the effect “I only do this for you, I don’t need this at all.” I wasn’t sure at the time it wasn’t true so I went about separating myself to try and figure it out and make sure it wasn’t just needy behavior on my part. I feel like my wife misses me, but at the same time…

It still sounds like a large portion of this in your mind is about Fixing the people around you whether it be your wife or your family. As hard as it is, you need to work towards letting go and focusing more on yourself. People are just going to be people so let them. Sounds like you are working towards boundary setting which is good. However the comment “you emotionally bully everyone around you, I will no longer tolerate this” could just be the later half as the former part appears to be askin…

No, After some introspection I’m still just letting fear run me. I have it and WOTSM but haven’t touched either for some fear that either might take me one of two extremes. I keep pushing myself towards small goals and addressing fears that way with thought that if I just do enough that I can kind of bootstrap myself into what it is I want. I think all this action while better than years of my inaction might just be motivated by fear of going back to what I was before as well. I will put it at t…

Role model the behavior yourself that want to see. Additionally, someone had mentioned a system I like where instead of taking things away for a specific duration, you take away things for undesirable behavior, then allow them to earn it back for desirable behavior.

Sounds like some ongoing progress since I’ve last spied your OYS a while ago. Not sure if you are following a particular diet, but I wouldn’t fear carbs if you are hitting protein/fat requirements particularly on training days. < I’ve reached a plateau in my motivation. < u/ghostCanape recommended switching from SrongLifts to Starting Strength or GZCLP. I have looked at GZCLP and it looks convincing, but, given my lack of knowledge, so does StrongLifts. Does anyone else have any knowledge/experience re the relative merits of the 2 programs (or indeed other programs)?> There looks to be a theme across your OYS where you are looking for hand holding and someone be your authority or tell you what to do. Truth be told I have some idea of what I want, but I’m just scared and feel I lack the frame to be able to confidently stand in what I want or who I am, which segways into the 2nd part. I’ve cared/care for far too long what long how other people will receive me. I want to do it so who gives a fuck. If I try to measure being attractive by other peoples standards I’ll just be where I’ve always been. I didn’t want to include that in my OYS and felt the need to hide it, which meant I needed to own i…

My wife walked back the ring thing, but I agree. Your tactic to just nuke shitty behavior, which I have taken to basically mean shut it down and GTFO have been most helpful. The bad behavior just seems to keep escalating and getting worse though with higher highs and lower lows. Yeah, STFU has helped me to realize how little things that I used to make about myself are actually about me. However, it could just be that my wife is tired one day or stressed about something else, what she will remember for days was that she was upset at me and that it was my fault.

Yeah, I feel lost with a lot of this stuff. I feel like the box having me move the box was just some sort of failed comfort test, because she was desperately trying to get me to move it for her, and not even being shitty about, but lost her mind after I declined, as if signaled some lost control over me. A few weeks ago she asked me do some small task for before we were intimate. I didn’t want to do it either. The old me would have jumped through hoops just to try and secure sex, but I really di…

Yeah, wendlars Big but boring is meant to help build strength and work towards hypertrophy. There is nothing wrong with machines in my mind, but compound movements will accomplish more for your given unit of time.

With time being as precious to you as you describe it makes sense to Map out a plan to get the equipment you need for compound lifts, as they will serve you better overall given time constraints. The initial time investment will pay dividends in time conservation for you in the future. Once you have the equipment for the big lifts you could run some straight sets with intensity techniques like myoreps or drop sets to help conserve time as well. A good power rack, Olympic barbell, bench, and some…

Yes, dunk a basketball on a 10 ft rim. What I’ve read is strength from deadlift/squats will help the most with this with this so it pairs nicely with currently goals to increase strength in general. In particular squat 1.5xBW and deadlift 2xBW is recommended.

It sounds like you have pretty good insight to what it is going on. My mom used me as her emotional tampon during childhood and it isn’t great and can foster some codependent behavior, but you can be there to continue to role model other behaviors and share other possible mental models to help him as he grows. Thanks, upper body lifts have stalled and I’m eking out small gains on lower body lifts. Overall, considering I’ve been dropping weight while doing this I’m pretty happy. I have been running it with the same lift as the main lift so bench press>bench press, squat>squat, etc… No, I am not suggesting upping the weight on a percentage basis, but instead focus on time under tension and going to closer to failure on earlier sets with lighter weights. My understanding is that total sets taken closer to failure will drive hypertrophy. So if you are breezing through the lighter work and only feeling your approaching failure close to the last set you might only maybe gett…

< I’m somewhat unhappy with my waist now. I’m sure this is at least partially lifter’s body dysmorphia, but I want to lose an inch or two off my waist to get a more pronounced v-taper. Will start reducing calories on non-lifting days to lose a few pounds and get myself closer to 175. Shitty genetics has assured me a very slim frame and fat that gets deposited only around my lower stomach, thighs and neck. Even a few pounds makes a difference given this concentration.> Do you do lat pull downs or…

Good job with weight loss, we have some similarities between weight loss and wendlars. I wanted to point out the following though: “Missed a run and drank too much, but got my lifts in.” There is a theme running between your OYSs over the past few weeks where similar verbage keeps coming up. Alcohol impairs MTOR (anabolic pathways) and has 7 calories/gram, which are both working against your goals, but Based on the language you are using in your OYS it sounds like you know that there possibly so…

Yeah, While not looking for it will just appreciate the praise then. Since I have started gaming the wife again I’ve dipped back into playful condescension, which I’m getting a feel for again. Can actually be pretty fun sometimes. I think it is along the lines of what your describing. It is weird of how it clicks but I can absolutely not pull off A&A. Had to shift away from unattractive “dad jokes.” Didn’t realize how much people expect congruence with things like that until you’ve been really f…

Yes I really do. I’ve accepted too much crap from other people most of my life. But I guess the “why” is less important than what I do about it now. I have always had some boundary markers they were just 1,000s of meters out for things like cheating, physical abuse, drug use, child abuse. I few months ago I started drawing them in some where I was no longer going to accept emasculating comments and being spoken down to, or my wife contradicting me in front of the kids allowing our daughter to sp…

Yeah, I have viewed failure in the binary sense. Reframing failure as an opportunity for growth would be a good thing for me. Along viewing it as a process instead of an outcome. This is evident in my taking challenges and setting goals that I feel like are easily achievable for me instead of taking the risk of not meeting said goals and coming up short. Yeah, I feel like I have been a plow horse for a good while now as well. One of my recent realizations is wanting to be a plowhorse for for myself instead of others, which has been more difficult then I imagined.
