No system is, and this one certainly falls short. Jailing isn't intended to correct the payment issue, it's intended to disinsentivize deadbeats. And it works. As in basic necessities. Ball gloves make fantastic gifts, and I endorse their purchase and use by dads. But make no mistake - this is not support. This is an extra. Is it so hard to believe that someone might hold an opinion other than your own? I'm a father. Happily married with no plans to change that situation. That said, if I were to split from my wife, I would make damn sure that I met my obligations to her and to my son, in exactly the same whay that I pay my utility bills and other expenses. Individuals with little income pay VERY LITTLE support. Not having much money doesn't change the fact that one has a legal, moral and parental responsibility to provide for one's children. Also, some, if not many of that 52% are gaming the system as they under-report their income or work under the table specifically to avoid having to pay support. If you are being held to account for failure to pay support it is because you are legally responsible to make those payments. Make them. Make them a priority over your own personal expenses.
