Funny you mention that - about 1-2 years later her doctor told her she was was in full blown menopause about 5 years younger than usual. I actually just read a piece somewhere by a woman in her late 40’s who had just gotten back together with her ex husband after realizing most of her issues were hormonal. I have zero desire for that to happen - but It confirmed some of my suspicions hearing her describe it.

I think a lot of women live their life in 2 chapters - they do the mom, wife, nuclear family thing. Then one day the flip - and they want to do a complete reboot.

I get what your saying but cops don’t always give you a chance to present evidence. So the app might help you defend in court, but may not help in the heat of the moment. Friend is going through this now, he has a relatively high security clearance. Supervisor told him he is putting his career at serious risk by staying there. Lots of guys have lost their credentials for DV accusations.

It really is - she turned 40 and it was like a literal switch. Completely new person, new mentality, etc I’m not saying she doesn’t have a right too, but it’s jarring to see.

The only thing I don’t agree with is not moving out, it’s not applicable on all circumstances. Men take a huge risk sharing a living space with someone who does not want them there and is potentially in a heightened emotional state. All it takes is a phone call and a sob story and your cooked. Moving out allowed me to mentally get to where she already was sooner, and made the whole thing less confrontational. YMMV

Its 2025, I'm not sure that anyone could have saved you if you didn't know these VERY documented risks going in. Being pissed at the outcome is one thing - saying you weren't warned of the risks is absurd.

It’s the old Louis CK joke - happy marriages don’t end in divorce - as long as he is cool around my kids, I get along fine with him.

100% - best to do it on your terms. Personally I staggered all of the bill transfers, cancellations etc so it wasn’t perceived as a “temper tantrum”. Just calmly preceded everything with a quick text - “FYI, getting rid of netflix end of the month” etc. Just did my best to not give her any ammo.

My quality of life immediately changed for the better so much when I moved out, just document the decision and don’t stress over how much of a waste it is financially.

Good points. I found that tasks/chores that I did and saw (and still see) as indispensable - she saw as easily replaceable. You can always call a plumber, mover, landscaper, etc However, I would be crucified for suggesting that her work could have been outsourced to a sitter, nanny, daycare, etc. Its a one way street fellas

So much this. She shopped out of habit - meaning she didn't understand a tight month, or waiting until the next paycheck and would flip out. Working in construction/engineering you have lulls between jobs - usually only a week or two. If I feel like eating rice and beans to get through a tight week there is no shame.

Oh I had that too, except it was the Amex. Anytime I asked her to reign it in a bit, it was “fine, I just won’t spend anything”. No in between…I get exhausted just thinking about those conversations now

Louis CK talked about that on a radio show years ago when he was going through a divorce. Once you realize your not storing "equity" with anybody its over. Partner A complains you "never" do something, Partner B makes an effort to do that thing. Partner B starts doing that thing 9 out of 10 times, however the one time they don't - its right back to "you NEVER do that thing" = No equity being stored. Good analogy is that Its like you have a bank account you keep putting money in, but every time y…

It's hard - but once they (spouse) enters martyr mode, its pretty difficult to swing back. I had similar issues, I worked a 6 figure job while she was a SAHM and worked part time. She's a devoted employee and I commend her for that, but she could never understand that it made more financial sense for her to call out of work instead of me. She acted like her work schedule was carved in stone while mine was perpetually flexible, just the nature of my Office job vs her retail job. All things being …
