Of course one must wonder, what about all the false allegations where the woman simply never admitted she had lied? We only know about this one because she eventually felt guilty enough to admit the truth. I reckon there are way more than people are willing to admit. We got Amber Heard and Blake Lively doing it in front of the masses. I'm not diminishing the reality of sexual abuse. I'm just also not pretending like the statistics we have are all inclusive.

Even if it worked it wouldn't apply - that's not getting a pass. Getting a pass implies a conscious decision to test someone differently because they are female. If after getting caught she then exposed her tits and asked him to let her get away, and then she did get away, that would be getting a pass. The fact that she can distract someone with her body though? That's not how a pass works.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people don't understand this huge difference... The "age of consent" is not only different across the globe, but it has also changed over the years. Puberty, however, is not bound by an age. Still wrong to pursue someone who isn't mature enough to make educated decisions. Still wrong to pursue someone you have influence or power over. But it's not pedophilia. It's predatory for sure, but that's not the same thing. I think there's laws in some places to address relations wh…

Specifically a child that hasn't undergone puberty yet. I'm not defending the teacher's actions. I'm also not defending pedophilia. They're both wrong. What I'm doing is making sure the definition is accurate. It wouldn't make sense to say "she's a pedophile because it happened in the United States, but if it happened in the UK, she would not be a pedophile because the age of consent and laws are different." Pedophilia is a mental health issue where you're attracted to prepubescent children. Thi…

Yeah. That's what makes it a tough conversation. Because like... How can someone be a pedo in New York but not in Iowa? Or a pedo when in USA, but not when they move to the UK?

I am judging her for her morally wrong decision. But pedophilia is the attraction to someone who hasn't undergone puberty yet. In most countries this age difference wouldn't have mattered. The issue is that she was in a position of influence over the student.

I feel like you don't know the definition of pedophilia... Unless this 17 year old hasn't gone through puberty yet, which seems impossible considering the article, it's not pedophilia. Rather, just a morally wrong thing to do with someone you have influence over.

Legally it would be, but technically pedophilia is an attraction to a person that hasn't yet undergone puberty. This is why in one country you could be considered a "pedophile" for something that's considered acceptable in another country or state where the consent age might be 15. The use of a "legal age" thing is more about protecting a child who doesn't have the ability to make a carefully thought out decision about who they're having sexual relationships with. Bring attracted to a 17 yr. old…

Glad you were okay. As someone who was falsely accused by a teen girl even with footage and an adult witness, and no charges were even pressed because police knew how ridiculous it was, my name was tarnished and I now fear most women.

It was a 14 year old that made the accusation. Not sure how that would work. But by now I'm sure it's too late anyway. This was almost 5 years ago. I'm truth, the effects of it have mostly worn off at this point. But I won't pretend like I don't have some residual paranoia. I also am afraid to foster or adopt any girls now. My wife and I previously wanted to do 5-8 years of teen boys, then do 5-8 years of girls, and keep going back and forth with a year break between each time... But I'm genuine…

Agreed. Had someone who didn't like me make an accusation against me in regards to sexual contact with a child. We had an adult witness, the child the accusation was about said it wasn't true, AND we had camera footage. I was grateful to have not suffered legally, but my name is pretty tarnished where I live. I'm actually desiring to move mainly for that reason. I've had hate mail left at my door, even having people make comments about my wife. My kids in school have been mocked. All because of …

I'm thinking it's not relevant only because the conversation isn't about whether or not it's okay to have relations with people at certain ages or levels of mental maturity. I think the conversation was just to clarify that paedophilia is specifically attraction to someone who has not hit puberty. I don't think anyone here believes that just because one does it puberty it means they are ready to make the decision of having sex. But by definition, having an attraction to that person or having rel…

What they need is some mental and emotional help. It can't be easy living with that burden. But yes, once it's acted on, consequences are necessary. To add to that, there should be consequences for having relations with a 15 year old also - but for different reasons. At that point it's not any form of pedophilia, but it is probably a young mind being taken advantage of. Coerced, even.

Agreed 100%. That's the purpose of the consent age laws, if I understand correctly. Hypothetically, I can understand a high school teacher thinking his 16 year old student is attractive. It's natural. But that doesn't mean having relations is okay, because 1) he has too much influence over her as a superior, and 2) she's probably too young to make that decision. But for someone to call that teacher a paedophile because of an attraction to someone who has undergone puberty is where I take issue. …

9 seems way too young still. Do kids hit puberty that early anywhere? I've seen kids as young as 12 hit puberty, but usually it's more like 14+. I can't imagine a 9 year old actually hitting puberty. That one might actually be "legal paedophilia" right there. Pretty messed up.

I think it's people attracted to people below age of puberty if I understand correctly. Isn't age of consent different around the globe? And then I think paedophilia is attraction to those that haven't got puberty? I'm not 100% sure, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Whatever happens to people just expressing how they feel and giving chances? Acknowledging that none of us are perfect and true love means accepting each other's faults? This girl is an idiot and won't ever find someone because she's looking for her personal definition of perfection.

Yet. Age is biologically determined. We used to say the same about gender. Heck, for some, even race is becoming a choice of how you identify. Honestly, I don't know what's stopping us from saying that 20 years from now we won't be able to legally identify as whatever age we want. Humans are weird. I prefer ferrets.

If a woman doesn't want sex, says no, but doesn't physically fight it, it will still be called rape. I've heard of this the other way, where a man didn't want to have sex yet in their relationship, and the woman kept forcing herself on him and insisting, taking his hand and placing it where she wanted. They ended up having sex, and he hadn't wanted it in the first place, and after felt uneasy about it all because she kept insisting and kinda made him (even though it wasn't physically forced or t…
