Couldn’t have said it better myself. OP: Our hearts are with you, man. Time to focus on yourself and the children.

OP: I see you valued this well-crafted feedback. Screenshot it and read it as many times as necessary. I’ll digress for a moment: By your own admission: This woman loves, cares, and accepts YOU for YOU. That isn’t found everyday. Honor that. You’ll be glad you did, trust me.

I agree to some extent, but I was referring to the voids left by a failed marriage.

Fear, really. “Am I ready for this?” “How do I approach this?”….. I wanted to ensure this relationship evolved organically versus looking for her to fill any voids. That’s why I spent a lot of time self-improving beforehand

Glad for your success, brother. Isn’t it amazing when we get to experience all the markings of great relationship? OP: If you’re interested in an update: My girlfriend and I are expecting our first child together later in the year, and we couldn’t be more excited. It IS possible, friend. 🙏🏾

I suspect anyone that’s been divorced (for the most part) goes through the same thing. What you’re feeling is normal. All that’s left now is for you to make the conscious choice that works for you. Will you get hurt again? Maybe. Will you two ultimately be a bad long-term fit? It’s possible. But also: Will you guys be great? Maybe! Will this woman reveal herself to be your true person after all? It’s possible! My divorce was merely an administrative courtesy as our marriage was over years prior.…

This is my thinking lol. Of course she’s gonna come back when you’ve got 2M in the bank. Man, fuck that noise lol.

It’s typical to have the “What the actual fuck happened?” feelings, even if the divorce was warranted. Here’s what you can do: You can start to make this chapter of your life whatever you want it to be. Fitness? You’re already working on it. Getting back into gaming? Nice. Look into other ways to self-improve. Take free certification classes, seek therapy if you haven’t yet (never hurts to have objectivity), or plan a road trip for yourself. Just put one foot in front of the other and take it da…

Respond with “Ok”. Kidding. Was the message disingenuous? Absolutely. But the message is clear in that she wants out, so oblige her. If she hinted towards separation unless the both of you fixed A or B that would be one thing. But this ain’t the case. I know it hurts, and my heart breaks for you, my brother. I learned a long time ago that the people we love always express their feelings in one way or another, and we shouldn’t ignore what we’re hearing. And if you think about it, she’s doing you …

I’m late to the party here, but it didn’t sound like “simping” to me whatsoever. Maybe the love you shared with your Ex wasn’t meant to last, but at minimum it gave you two wonderful teenage boys you seem to be proud of. And that’s worth celebrating. Wishing you inner peace, friend.

Yup. Love is a beautiful thing and should definitely be in sphere of marriage. But value alignment is everything, and love can’t save severe differences there

OP: I agree. This is a good fight indeed. You know what you don’t want to happen? That level of regret on your conscience. It WILL happen, my friend. Talk to your boss and ask if you can go virtual for a while to assess where you really are.

You’re welcome, and thank you for sharing your perspective as well. Everything you said is absolutely true. I wake up most days with gratitude, but sometimes the melancholy of what could’ve been creeps in. And the grab bag of emotions is very real. Here’s to healing and carving a path forward. One day at a time, friend 🙏🏽. You’re not alone.

I so appreciate you mentioning the step-parent/child dynamic as there isn’t really a playbook for that sort of thing. Your words are wise indeed - thank you. I made the decision early on that I would never stop sending her (step daughter) my love. We talk almost every day and have kept up our monthly dad-daughter dates, which she really enjoys. She’s off to college in June, so that’ll be an interesting transition. And my girlfriend knows of this arrangement and couldn’t be more supportive and wa…

Easier said than done, but try to reframe this situation as you tending to a blank canvas. You have an opportunity to make the rest of your life WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO BE. You got a raw deal and have my sympathies. Lord knows I was there. But you still have the gift of time and imagination, my friend. Take a class on something that’s always interested you. Pick up a sport/activity you’ve always wanted to try but couldn’t because the schedule of married life was bogging you down. Go for a hike. …
