If you only take "The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men" as the definition of feminism, very few people in our culture would oppose this stance, but most other people still wouldn't call themselves "feminists". The argument was semantic in nature, and the problem with a general statement like "all feminists sources use X data, and have no concern for facts" (I'm paraphrasing) is that in this case there is a definition for the word femini…

You're missing the point entirely in your effort to be right. A generalization is a generalization, and it's hypocritical of you to cite bad data, while generalizing that everyone who purports to show data to the contrary is both a feminist, and wrong... furthermore, you then pull a classic move and tell me to find something disproving your generalization (See also: Russel's Teapot). What offends you, in it's entirety, is not feminism... I would think since you already agreed you were one by def…

You're apparently not even remotely understanding what my point was.. what a bias is.. or how I related the two, but I do respect that you don't let a lack of understanding stop you from arguing. Good chat.

I'm confused, you're saying there are only two explanations.. and one oddly disagrees with what you've decided the answer is, and the other agrees with it 100%? Wow. Odd, that.
/r/MensRights17/10/12 07:02 PM

Doesn't really matter what I think, that's the point of my original response. The data found the question, not the answer. If we're tossing out answers based on our own personal bias, then one is as good as another.

"Its that women learn early on they can't be those jobs so they don't want them as much." This wasn't the conclusion of the study, and is just this persons answer to the question the data created. Or maybe it was your general use of "his", and my assuming you meant Copperopolis.
/r/MensRights17/10/12 06:33 PM

I like how you ask the right questions, and then draw on your bias for the answer.. while telling someone else their bias is wrong. The question IS why do women prioritize less stress and more flexibility, given the data available. Leave it at that.

How can you go after someone on the grounds of inaccuracy, and then pretend statements like "every feminist I've ever met.. " "most feminists use.. " paint you some champion of truthiness? Feminism is a word, it has an actual meaning -- "The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men" -- it's not a label that instantly invalidates an argument because most people, by definition, would actually BE this. It irritates me when either side of any argum…

I had no intention of having children with previous partners -- but my current SO? I actually was fine with it before she was. The truth is that these women couldn't find men willing to commit to it with them -- and quite potentially it has to do with data points from both the men they were after, and these specific women.

I don't honestly care where you find abortion applicable or not, it's not the point. Nor is what you find childish, your take on men, or any other totally obtuse factor. As it stands right now, only the woman can choose to end the chain of events that culminate in parenthood if a pregnancy occur. Your lament on the ownership and responsibility being grand, it doesn't change the fact that pregnancies do occur and "assuming the risk" does not equate to the sole factor in determining if you should …

Your arguement is leaving the realm of rational and moving into religious/morality -- I'm not touching that ground because it's pointless. This isn't a pro-life/pro-choice discussion in my book, just one where all parties involved deserve equal footing.
/r/MensRights10/02/11 04:55 AM
2

There isn't resolution here, because I don't believe a woman's right to choose is "dodging their responsibilites" anymore than I believe a man who doesn't want to be a parent is dodging his - religious dogma notwithstanding, I believe as creatures of biology we are going to do what we do.. and to pretend that a mistake in this regard carries with it a life sentence is, to put as fine a tip on it as I can, lunacy.
/r/MensRights10/02/11 03:27 AM
1

This doesn't really solve anything, and instead actually just creates a bevy of new problems. Being able to "choose" should be the option of both adults, not just one (or neither). If you replace abortion in my examples with adoption - either way, it's still never the males actual choice, and one gender is still endentured based on the decision of the other.
/r/MensRights10/02/11 02:11 AM

I don't think it really matters who is for or against it. What matters are the state senates that write family law -- they are still a majority of men across the board, and the laws still remain unchanged for a reason. I mean, it could be that it's political suicide to touch them. I really don't know.
/r/MensRights09/02/11 08:55 PM

The right to choose, and endentured servitude are not the same thing. If someone has the right to choose, in our mythical technologically advanced world, then that is where their right starts and stops. The notion of child support should be undone because it's unfair, regarless which gender it impacts. If a parent wants the child, they want the child, it should not come with a price tag for the parent that didn't. This is the component today that causes me so much grief: If the woman wants to ke…

Save your bullshit rethoric. There is what I said, and there is the nonsense you continually argue in any thread. The two never meet. You do this in every post you make on MR, and pretend because you've made up some reasons and thrown around the most insults that you've turned shit into gold. Doesn't work that way. Fact: Chemical castration has been on the books since 98', and and yet to experience your mystical "mission creep". Is it possible? Of course. Is it probable? No, it's not -- and it's…

As per normal, you soapbox without actually reading anything. Not once did I support anything, but said you can't pretend slippery slope is an arguable stance. You're of the worst offenders in this subbrediit of ignorant behavior, and borderline paranoid lunacy.

I didn't mean I was looking to argue, but from the comments being posted it was clear people weren't reading the actual bill and were kneejerking like this was a 2x thread. Wanted that to stop and have people state actual thought out arguements, rather then "NOW THEYLLL CUT OFF THE BALLS OF SOME 16 YEAR OLD KID WHO SLEEPS WITH HIS 14 YR OLD GF". There is data to support chemical castration, voluntary or required to re-enter society. Where Im confused is how VA is getting away with suggesting a s…

It relies on a guess, end of story. You can't really get around that part. I understand it's a concern, but the only thing VA is doing is suggesting a study. 5 states already do chemically, and it's only applied for the past 12 years to the worst of the worst. From the data on hand though, it's really hard to even fathom the notion that this becomes the common judgement in rape cases. There is zero evidence to support this happening -- matter of fact, in the 12 years it's been in use, it has not…

Unarguable. Slippery slope has no logical application, ever. You can make up what you think will happen in 5 years, but neither of us can say it will. Further more, 5 states already have chemical castration as an option since 98.
/r/MensRights28/01/11 11:54 PM

To reduce, or remove the biological drive for sex that comes with the chemicals your testicles release into your body. Castration operates under the premise that sexual assualt is always sex-based, which is faulty -- but that is the driver.
/r/MensRights28/01/11 06:47 PM
5

Again, testicles aren't required for an erection. Please feel free to, you know, actually read something on the topic and educate yourself.
/r/MensRights28/01/11 06:36 PM
6

You're confused, it's not about "orgasm". It's about the gonads producing hormones that impact your sex drive. Also: your testicles are not required for an orgasm. You can downvote me till you feel great, you're still wrong about basic biology.
/r/MensRights28/01/11 06:31 PM

No, we're talking the sexual offender version of castration -- not the version committed in tribal or religious systems.
/r/MensRights28/01/11 06:24 PM

Physical castration is the removal of the testicles -- the female equal would be ovaries.
/r/MensRights28/01/11 06:22 PM
5

Because females rarely commit violent sexual crimes of the nature that even fall into the category of potential for castration (requires the act be violent, and perpetrator be of the sub-set where rehabilitation is unlikely). The bill specifically targets the low percentage of violent sexual offenders who have little/no chance of rehabilition with standard treatment. Btw, the states that currently employ chemical castration make no provisions for male v. female. The violent sexual crimes themsel…

It's a draconian solution, but it appears most comments here are from those that actually didn't read the proposed bill. It's specifically for the most violent offenders, with a history of predatory behavior and a high chance of repeating.. note: VIOLENT. There is data to accurately determine those that standard treatment options will be ineffective on. Not one time assaults, nor 16 year olds sleeping with underage girlfriends. Can't deny what you're saying, when it's a case that they can prove she is lying. I just don't think that's always easy to do, or as cut and dry as in this specific situations.
/r/MensRights03/12/10 03:07 AM
2

I'm not sure I fully agree -- nor does any data at present reflect that a lack of stiff punishment for lying about rape is causing an increase of false rape claims. Correlation doesn't not equal causeation. If you falsely accuse someone of murder, or battery, or theft, and you are lying, there is no law in place that makes you culable to what would've been their sentence if found guilty -- but rape should be different? I just don't know about that. As I said above, my concern with stiff penaliti…
/r/MensRights03/12/10 03:05 AM

Very well could be, was just my gut reaction to it --- if there is as stiff a sentence opposed for lying as for the crime, I would worry it would incentivize the idea of 'die with your lie'
/r/MensRights03/12/10 02:59 AM
10

The problem here is that if you make it too strong a negative to admit lying, no one will ever recant and admit they were lying. I don't disagree with your sentiment at all, but you have to give the women an out who do lie.. sadly -- and it's more to protect the victim of their lie then it is them.

No, you are using an arguement of convience and addendum. Your arguement IS semantical and is IS the crux of most men's issues regarding the topic. You can caveat and add and bullshit till you're blue in the face, you can pretend an abortion doesn't avoid becoming a parent, you can pretend they are two unrelated events (because obviously pregnancy does not lead to a child being born, in your mind), hell, you can pretend storks deliver babies magically for all I care -- because as of this moment,…

You are arguing semantics, and I have to believe you know it. The woman can choose to not be a parent, by virtue of termination - which IS the end result regardless how you word it. The man may not, at any point, make the same choice. I'm not saying right or wrong here, simply that one half of the equation decides, either way, for the other half in the current system.

The research is not hotly contested, sorry. This is flat out wrong. Circumsized males do have an decreased chance of contracting infections through sex, via their penis, across the board -- and your point about homosexual males is so ignorant it borders on malicious. In areas of the world where AIDS is prevelent, all health organizations want to provide it (circumcision) and there are multiple studies proving there is no diminished sexual function from it. I don't think in terms of social reform type ideas you, sadly, ever reach what works out to be a fair equilibrium.. at least if history is any teacher. I'd say historically it swings one way.. and then is classicly over-corrected. Wash, rinse, repeat the other way, then back, then again, etc, etc, etc. What you hope for is that there are enough people in the middle fighting for truly fair, which I truly believe there are. Did I discredit anything but your silly statement about the head of your penis? Jesus, is this thing on? Are you reading anything? If you'd like to compare academic credentials im PMs, I'm sure my student loans are much greater than yours -- so you can knock off the cliche education comment. Something I'm willing to bet a via quick look through your posting history is a staple satement of any argument you've had. And between the two of us, the only person calling your responses "meaningful" is y…

Yes, when you pretend your opinion becomes fact (because my dick is sensitive to things and yours isn't, it's proof circumcision diminishes sensitivty!) you break down your own arguement. I was pretty clear on what I was talking about, I thought. More reading? You're quoting wikipedia while actually telling people because the head of your penis is sensitive that the fact theirs rubs on things all day and doesn't hurt shows some undeniable proof? Yes, I see now. Your science is unrefutable.. lol …

For starters -- you're free to your own opinion, right up until it overlaps with fact. At the point you hit facts in a dicussion, you're going to have to back them up or label them as opinion. When you say something like this: Therefore, I've presented a simple argument for how it is undeniably clear that the uncircumcised penis is more sensitive than the circumcised one (rubbing against fabric all day long). You've done nothing but use analogy as the basis for fact, and it doesn't work. The pro…

You're not going to get me to defend the church. =p It's an arguement, and we have sides. I don't assume you're argueing from any standpoint other than what you believe. My point is that a study is only as valid as the organization that funds it. The two listed sites are hardly impartial, and you have to take their studies findings with a grain of salt. Beyond that, the reasons you don't hear about more complications aren't because they are hiding them: it's because the incidence of occurance is…

Stop using analogy, we're talking facts and they are not subjective -- if you want to argue religion, I'm with you on the analogy. Politics? Sure. But we're talking documented medical facts here, and I don't mean to be offensive in saying that. You have two point you're trying to make, if I'm following: Something was cut, therefore it's diminished. You want to devalue the rates of infection/spread infection. To the first point: No. Unless you have sprouted a second penis that is circumsized, you…

No, the reduced rates of infection are not the same as never washing yourself. You're parroting what you heard somewhere, and it is factually incorrect. Secondly, no. There are zero studies showing diminished sensitivity by any actual scientific/medial group. The ones out there are independantly funded, and they should be of zero value to anyone with half a brain. I am sure I can find you an independant study that shows uncircumsized males orgasm with less volume, make less money per year, and t…

You have zero proof of "better pleasing a female", it's subjective and something totally and completely unarguable. And yes, it does have a valid medical premise. It's easily readable anywhere -- you cannot pretend it's not there by virtue of saying so and it's not just HIV, it's infection; both for you and your partner. You can label that however you'd like, but in medical terms the studies prove it's validity. edited - my last sentence was run on and tried to cram in too much

Please try and tell me you're using SEXASNATUREINTENDED as valid medical studies. Read the disclaimers on the sites, friend. Next you should link to a Chruch run website on gay marriage and abortion, and cite their "research".

Are you admitting you could be less sensitive as well? Seems to me you're talking as if you have the knowledge of both sides, and giving yourself the advantage -- something at least medically you do not have. In studies that I've read, and that are easily accessible via google if you'd like to educate yourself, there is no definable difference in sensitivity between an uncircumsized and circumsized penis.

Maybe you can tell the difference, maybe. Do you know the actual thickness of the skin we're talking about you feeling? Even if you do, you're going to note the girth of the penis before you notice and intact foreskin with your vagina. The majority of preference is in the head of the preferer though - but in my experience I've met far more women that were physically turned off by an uncircumsized penis then interested in them -- and a quick look at the porn industry, and the fact that uncircumsi…

Circumcision has been studied extensively, there is a valid medical foundation for doing it. This is NOT female circumcision, and NOT ideological genital mutilation, and while I understand the thought of the procedure is certainly less than settling, you guys really need to stop pretending it isn't rooted in valid, studied, and proven medical science. In terms of the thread title though, that is horrible --but these are called "outliers", and they exist as worst case scenarios for any medical pr…

Except for the fact there there are uncircumsized males out there to compare, and they have no better function. I understand the thought of the practice is unsettling, but please stop pretending like it hasn't been studied ad nauseam and doesn't have a valid medical premise.

Nevermind the literal dozens of studies by every reputable medical research facility in the known educated world showing the benefits of circumcision. Nevermind as parents using this EDUCATION to benefit your child..

I dont understand all the up in arms here.. statistically speaking it is the spouse quite often. The spouse is ALWAYS the first looked at. Am I reading the wrong article? Who cares what the comments say? We are talking about the article, right?

Disconnect internet service at home, or password protect access to the computer. Say it's a cost saving measure. It isn't a matter of proof, it's a matter of allegation.

I still disagree with the notion that the concept of spousal support is the underlying problem -- and I've not seen any data that supports it as the main issue (not that many studies admittedly are done on this). In my opinion, the issue is that the state family laws (they are all set at the state level, via the state senate to my understanding) have always attempted to use a one size fits all approach -- and especially in family case matters that just seems to be a really bad idea. I think the …

Yea, because I disagree with you and offer a coherent reason why I'm obviously only talking about women (even though I specificed fair to parties not genders), and an apologist. Allow me to forward you a third option: I am someone with a different set of experiences than you. I went after an educated woman that was my equal, and in that particular sub-set of couples you don't see a lot of this so I'm not a bitter, jaded prick. You know, like you. The system was well intentioned at design, and wa…

I do understand that blanket statements don't cover the entirity of every possible situation -- and I sincerely am sorry for yours. Secondly, if the system wasn't designed as a free lunch, and was designed to protect both parties interests, things like this would be seen on a case by case level, instead of the current iteration of it where they slam a circle peg into every shape of hole but circle quite frequently. I still think, however, that the system is the problem, not the people who use it…

This is a miserable, bitter, and bullshit answer. You aren't looking for justice, or equality -- you want revenge. While I understand it (My Dad was arrested on stupid deadbeat dad laws for being 4 days late on a payment to his ex, while married to my Mom and taking care of myself and my sister and working three jobs), and even empathize with it -- Know what? It was partially this position of "Fuck women" in the 50's and 60's that lead the system into the current state it's in today. A system th…

Firstly, it's not just Father's that get sued. There are documented cases of both genders getting raked over the coals here -- obviously it's far tilted to the Father's side taking the brunt, but keep this in mind. The system is what is flawed, and it should be in place to protect -- not as a means of revenge to sustaining an effortless lifestyle. If both parties agreed one partner wasn't going to work, then something has to done for that partner when it's over. We're talking a more fair system,…

I don't like reading these stories anymore than the next guy, and I have friends who have been raked over the coals pretty badly -- but what are the actually best way to change this? Abolish spousal support? There are situations where the wife and husband did agree she could stay at home, they split up, and now she has no marketable skills to live off of. I don't see this as any more/less fair than the current situation -- it just changes who becomes victimized by the split. Of course in the cas…

I read it as an attempt at countering a direct argument by saying "Well, I know exceptions " -- thereby attempting to refute an arguement with a weak position having nothing to do with the original (a statement that alimony laws are currently unfair). Yes, I know what a strawman is. Thank you for asking! Do you know what "extrapolating" means?
/r/MensRights26/07/10 12:24 AM

This is a strawman arguement though. Because had your Father, and in turn your girlfriend's ex, made NO money, they still would've been required to pay. The problem is the system, not the people who do, or do not, choose to exploit it.

I'm not clear on how this explains my initial question about logistics -- I mean, given that the erection is required, how does a guy have non-consenual sex with a woman? Or, better worded, how is a guy forced to have non-consenual sex?

How it's possible, for starters. Then why, given the statistically insignificant prevalence of the actual occurance why some of the posts here are literally making this sound like it's happening with some alarming regularlity. Don't get me wrong, there are amazons and there are smaller guys, and I could understand the sexual assault (for instance: if he was incapacitated and something was shoved in his ass), but in terms of vaginal penetration I am REALLY not able to see the logistics of this. I…

So you're against censorship, yet want people who you don't agree with banned? I'm sorry, but I have a REAL tough time understanding the logistics of male rape. I know you're against censorship and all, and obviously since I don't understand male rape I'm a troll, but there you have it.
