Please block. As someone who became involved with a distant person, it became harder and harder to distance myself the longer it went on. I realize it might hurt to hear this, but the way he’s communicating is showing he’s interested in the attention. You’re entertainment to him. No great love story starts with “it was really hard at first because he was so inconsistent, and I questioned my own self-worth SO much”. I can see you know this intellectually. Next time you feel an urge to contact him…

This is truly despicable. He sees her as despoiled rather than a survivor of sexual violence.

Right on, sis.

This reads like a troll to me. The way the language uses SO! MANY! key phrases to justify his warped perspective is too slick.

With that one I’d say he actually had a delusional disorder. I don’t think the show should have broadcast it. He seemed legitimately unwell.

Check your internalized misogyny, please.

Ah yes. That moment when you check the OP’s posting history to see if there is a chance she’s dating your ex....haha. I think, as others have said, this smacks of him controlling the narrative. He’ll never actually be available. You should know he cares though, OP. He cares sooo much! So much that it’s overwhelming for him and he just needs some space mm’kay? But you should know, despite a complete lack of actions on his part to support his words, that he does care. So much. Therefore, please do…

Yes, it’s a passive aggressive swipe at her for being focused on something else other than him I’d say.

This is a good point - why did he tell you so early? It smacks of him changing the narrative... I’d be careful.

Can I ask what you realistically feel this will accomplish? The “other woman” is not responsible for the actions of NVM, as much as his violence towards your friend might be heightened by her presence in his life. I understand your anguish and how heartbreaking it is to watch someone you care about be enmeshed in a DV situation (I’ve worked as a women’s DV counsellor) but I doubt this will have a positive impact for anyone involved.

I would probably be taken aback by the way the STD comment was phrased. I AM sensitive however. How did you find out about his ex calling him? Did he tell you?

“I’m trying my best”.... Therefore, you shouldn’t have a problem with it. Therefore if you do, you’re not understanding or caring enough. Therefore, there is something wrong with you. God that phrase sends shivers down my spine now.

I've found this a good barometer for misogyny myself - are they so repulsed by the human body being a BODY and not a fantasy vehicle they'll screw up their face in disgust? Make little comments...?

How did you find out via Pinterest? Sorry you’re going through this.

This isn’t really my thing. I think it’s more for women who value that type of self-care. I can see how having a regular reinforcement of it would be helpful though.

This is a little different than the conversation tapering off and him then not picking it up again for four days. You tried to get in contact with him repeatedly, which makes this a deliberate choice on his part to ignore you. It doesn’t sound like he’s open to the idea of commitment at the moment, even if he would like to be. Please really look at his actions - would you accept this behavior from a friend?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
