There are a lot of guys who fall down a dangerous incel/sexist & entitled rabbit hole. The rise of the right wing manosphere is evidence of the system failing men. it could've been worded more carefully but I can't see how it expresses hatred for men. It's a display of the author's misandry. Did they say they hate men, or did they say they hate male violence? This article read like it was written by a fearmongering far right racist, with men swapped in for brown people. "For the first time I can remember, we were talking about really tackling misogyny and tackling male behaviour." That's a nonsense thought experiment, because it would be easy to just give everyone the right to free college. My hypothetical already accounts for this though - free college for everyone is precluded as an option. So would you rather only white people have the right to free college, or no one? Does anyone know how much support paper abortion has in the US? Because if it's the case that most Americans are against it, then I think it's a good thing that Roe was overturned, as it creates more equality between the sexes (both have similar levels of reproductive choice now).

Toxic masculinity is bad both as a concept and a term. Firstly, toxic masculinity does say masculinity is toxic, which in my opinion is pretty misandrist. Secondly, it overgeneralizes and misrepresents how men feel and behave. Thirdly, it defeats its own purpose by prescribing its own standard of masculinity, which is supposed to be toxic. Fourthly, it's phrased in misandrist language.

I think it's because feminism and progressivism tend to appeal to less traditionally masculine men. It's of course socially acceptable to mock and look down upon such men across the political spectrum which is why I suppose it has prevalence among the left despite their purported values. So imo being progressive is not the actual reason for this contempt but lack of traditional masculinity.
