It depends on the person. Most people are easy to talk to about this, even a few of my teachers. But it isn't the easiest. Went to Florida for a 10 days on my bday and it's definitely easier to talk about over there. It's a large progression from what I grew up with, however. I was red pilled by my own family actually, my step-dad and grandfather are my primary RP'ers.

I'm actually going for software engineering, but I've decided to learn statistical analysis because of my dad. My dad is going to be going into Analytics and we both have tight schedules. We test each other of the contents of our courses and that way, we have more experience in different fields. Plus you never know when you'll need to do analytics, I tend to need it a lot.
