There are cheap (~$5) door/window alarms you can get on amazon. They are two magnets basically that you stick on the wall and window/door. When the door or window opens and the magnets are more than a few centimeters away from each other the alarm sounds. I bought them when I lived on a first floor apartment and they definitely gave me some piece of mind.

Does he not get that the reason gendered violence is threatening is because of the strength differential between men and women? Even as a fit female if the average male wanted to attack me I doubt I have a shot of defending myself, the average male at least stands a chance. Men do face violence from other men. Women face violence from men, with an added sexual component much greater statistically than exists for men. Male violence, whether it is directed at men or women, is a male problem. Don't…

From his Wikipedia page: Kiedis has acknowledged having twice committed statutory rape (of a 14-year-old when he was 23), which inspired him to write the song "Catholic School Girls Rule". Man I wish I hadn't read this. I grew up on Red Hot Chili Peppers

Kiedis had a rough childhood too. If I recall correctly his father basically bought him a prostitute when he was 13. Really fucked up.

I read that book and the part that got me was spoilers in the version of the Middle East where women chained up and tortured/assaulted men. And we saw even the "virtuous" female led governments had to cooperate with them and made weak protestations about human rights abuses, but largely didn't care. If it were men today in the Middle East being murdered in honor killings, having their genitals mutilated, being jailed for not wearing a veil, do you think the world would look the other way? Of cou…

I think a lot of it is also wishful thinking. I used to draw a lot of false equivalences between men and women because it's easier to pretend that women are just as sexually aggressive/prone to paraphilias as men than to recognize and confront the reality of how men view women and a millenia's worth of history of sexual violence. In my libfem days, I would rather convince myself that extreme BDSM was "empowering" because it served the purpose of perpetuating the idea that men and women are the s…

I noticed this trend with certain friends. If a right-leaning male friend says something creepy/sexist, I can tell them to fuck off and that's the end of it. They may not take it seriously but they won't say something like that around me again, and they'll at least respect me enough to allow me to disagree. My liberal male friends will lecture me about why whatever creepy/fetishizing thing they said was actually empowering for women. They'll try to educate me about feminism. The former is a lot …

While I am glad there is a community of men dedicated to stopping porn use, that subreddit is one of the more demoralizing subs I've browsed. It's shocking how hard it is for men to just...stop watching porn. Really quite a wake up call, honestly. Men are not like us.

Things like OnlyFans definitely change the conversation a little bit. But OnlyFans runs into many of the same traps that other sex work does: low wages, potential for blackmail, potential for real world harm via doxxing etc, selling your body, limiting future career options. If I had to choose I'd rather OnlyFans than other more "traditional" forms of prostitution. But I don't believe OnlyFans is a good thing for women, both as a whole and on an individual level.

A lot of these feminists who preach 'sex work is work' confuse being against sex work with hating sex workers This is a pretty charitable interpretation. I think at this point, conflating opposing sex work with hating sex workers is a deliberate rhetorical trick used (mostly by men) to shut down all conversation and avoid addressing feminist concerns about the industry.

Certain men on the left will unironically argue that we should offer these things for sex workers (agree - if we must have sex work there should be protections) and that offering these things will make sex work like any other job (lol).

What institutional power do women gain from being bought and sold?
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy05/01/21 09:53 PM
6

Exactly. A key tenet of socialist theory is class analysis - yet in this arena we are to just accept that the nebulous concept of "choice" trumps everything, regardless of society and circumstance. I am opposed to men buying women's bodies as a commodity. This follows very naturally from basic feminist orthodoxy. It's stunning how much men have warped the definition of feminism to meet their own ends.

Men browse through dozens of violent porn subs every day and comment sections that constantly objectify/duhumanize women. But 1/500th of pushback is enough for them to lose their shit. Men want total domination. They can't stand even the smallest, most disproportional pushback to their desires and cultural norms defining the culture for all of us.

Society blinds young women to the reality of what even "good" men are capable of through movies/media/etc. If women understood that even liberal, progressive men will view them with contempt at best and threaten/blackmail them at worst, then maybe they might be able to make a more informed decision.

"Political lesbian" has a bad connotation as some lesbians find it offensive. The idea that women choose to be gay because men hurt them is a common homophobic trope. Watch out, there are better breeds for this kind of thing than pitbulls (german shepherds in particular). Police notoriously don't use pits because even though they are highly capable as an attack breed, they often can pose more of a risk to their owners, other dogs, and other humans than other breeds.

Don't you know? Women's oppression is not based on sex-linked traits; namely, lower physical strength and the ability to bear children. Misogyny has nothing to do with that. Rather, it's based on an amorphous gender feeling that one identifies in and out of. If only someone had told that to the class of people denied the right to education and the right to vote.

There is a big, rather insidious movement to make things like domestic and sexual assault not gendered. We need to be calling domestic violence "male violence against women" because that's what it is. The official twitter account of the Leeds Labour Party in the UK recently tweeted that misogyny is not based on sex, but based on one's own sense of identity. A political party shitting on the premise of feminism and ignoring a civilization's worth of history. If women were not the sex to give birt…

No, now they write "lesbian sex tips" that involve how to give blowjobs. And advice on anal sex. I wish I was joking.

Imagine calling yourself a heterosexual male and being upset that a woman is healthy.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy04/10/20 01:32 PM

Exactly. And even if the risks of a close relationship were equal, men are still better able to defend themselves physically. It's trivial for the average man to defend himself against the average woman.

I still think it's only a matter of time before FDS gets the boot. Female solidarity, women actually advocating for their own interests as a political sex class...very scary to men. Look at the 70s, the era that simultaneously brought historic gains for women but also introduced the words "feminazi" and the caricature of the bra-burning, man hating lesbian. Feminism has been neutered and effectively rendered inert ever since the second wave. Radfem resurgence could mean actual progress for women…

I agree. Horrible women are usually very much isolated, edge cases. Odds I'd be completely fine with in a hypothetical female only society

Do it! It'll get banned I'm sure, but i'd love for radfems to have a space on reddit.

Exactly. Spaces like this are so vital, they help women counter the collective grooming at a societal level. It's why men absolutely hate it. I saw a comment here that said, "Only when you understand the rules of the game can you consent to playing it." This sub helps women do just that.

Orgasms are pretty much the strongest motivator there is. Reinforcing this reward pathway will not help men "get over" any pedophilic tendencies they have. It only make them stronger. Men talk all the time about how watching porn makes them desensitized to "normal" porn to where years later they need stronger and stronger stuff to get off. But yet when it comes to kinks and ddlg shit we're supposed to believe that effect isn't present?

Men's decline in fertility with age is a leading theory for why autism is so prevalent in modern times. Average male age of first child used to be 25, now it is 35.

I think the thing that truly made me a feminist was not shitty, abusive NVM men but the normal dudes who constantly suck their dicks. Normal, "good" guys will idolize the shittiest of shitty dudes. That quote about men only really loving other men rings so true to me.

My dad told me that he used to work with a guy who begged his wife for a threesome. She relented. The wife ended up leaving him for the other woman. They're still together. It was almost 30 years ago. I love happy endings.

Yep. I've been on the fence about getting a dog for months now, and the thing that's holding me back is just how much more messy and needy dogs are than cats. Cats are self-cleaning, chill roommates that cost next to nothing to have. Dogs are messy, needy, expensive, the list goes on...

People often pull the "pit bulls aren't a breed!" card. But pitbull are a class of bulldog breeds, much like "retrievers" or "sporting" dogs are a class. German shepherds should be considered a dangerous breed, though not quite on the level of pitbulls/corsos, but similar to huskies. Without proper training a GSD is absolutely dangerous. There should be special requirements to own a dog that is capable of inflicting serious damage similar to gun licensing. And people shouldn't be offended when p…

I'm a huge cat lover but all of those things you've said are true. I would add that dogs are pretty gross as well, and I like dogs (though I don't love them like I do cats). Honestly pet ownership is pretty weird and gross when you think of it. I am repulsed when people let their dogs lick their face. But yeah my cat shits in a box, I'm not gonna pretend that's not gross. It just doesn't bother me as much as scooping a dog's poop from the ground does.

Exactly. The delusion surrounding pits when it comes to breed traits is infuriating. Yeah, your dog that was selectively bred to maul other dogs is a "nanny dog", sure Jan.

Pitbull attacks are notoriously difficult to break up, which is what makes them such a high-risk breed. Most dog bites are warning snaps or defensive bites, but pitbulls tend to latch on and shake and continue mauling. There are videos out there of pitbulls being shot multiple times before stopping their attack. The best method seems to be choking them out if possible, sticking something up the side of their mouth, or sticking something up their butt (seriously). There's a lot of BS out there ab…

I hate hate hate the "men can joke around but wahmen can't!!!" line. I've had a fair amount of male friends in my time, they cannot handle a women ribbing them in any way. Bants between bros is fun and good and purer than petty female friendships, but when a woman mildly pokes fun at a dude suddenly it's out of line. The "female friendships are inferior" talking point is what first broke my social conditioning and led me to feminism. It's such bullshit and not even remotely based in reality. Jus…

Men on the left have no trouble acknowledging that the damages of slavery, etc. percolate down through generations and worsen inequality. Yet there are many women alive today whose mother didn't have the right to vote, and men think misogyny either doesn't happen, isn't a big deal, or is on par with men's issues.

This, and Rogan's conversation with Abigail Shrier are really making me a fan of his. He makes a ton of feminist points even though he probably wouldn't call himself a feminist. Also, I hate how JP is seen as some ultra-rational logic sage. He's anything but logical here.
