I want to second this and add doing foster care might be an option. In most states in the US, the government will pay for daycare and medical expenses for the child and give you a stipend for clothing and food. This happened to my cousin, who refused to let her child be the sixth in a line of Wilfreds (not the actual name, which was worse). She just couldn't stand the name. Her husband actually went by a completely different nickname and she didn't even know his real name was Wilfred until just before they got married. She got a lot of pushback from her in-laws (except her MIL, who could see her point) but held firm and named her baby a relatively common name.

This makes me think of a subplot in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. These characters hate the butler Malvolio, so they fake a note from his crush saying she wants him to wear yellow (a color she hates), wear his garters crossed, and smile all the time. So he does, even though it's against his personality, and she just thinks he's insane. My daughter has been getting ready for AP English Literature test so I've got Shakespeare on my mind.

I would also confirm that men frequently divorce women who are ill, I have to wonder how much of this is the woman divorcing the man because she realized he wasn't capable of handling her illness and she was better off without him. If you're healthy you can put up with a lot more because you can just work around it or do things yourself. When you're helpless, his not remembering to pick up your pain meds or not being willing to cook and care for the house becomes a huge problem.

Utah has a bill to decriminalize polygamy, not legalize it. It looks like the idea is to make it so people living in polygamous situations will feel more comfortable coming forward and reporting other crimes. I'm just hoping that it won't make polygamy even more accepted here because the culture here is already way too tolerant of polygamy and its inevitable abuse of women as it is.
