You're right. Excuse my ignorance. I was thinking of a more "poetic" interpretation of the term. I do project. In my experience, it has more to do with me projecting undesirable things onto myself, but that's hardly topical. Everyone's unique, there's no doubt about that. I choose to focus on what I've got in common with others, but for something so unquantifiable, I can see your way being very practical. Either way, people do tend to behave predictably and use similar mental tricks through life…

I used myself as a baseline for understanding other people when I was a child, but being wrong enough times taught me that other people don't think like I do and that using myself as a baseline was ineffective. You color your perception of people with your own jaded feelings. It's as simple as that, man. I do it. Your grandma does it, everyone on this subreddit does it.
