When my father divorced my mother, he stopped all renovations on the house. For various reasons (many of which related back to her, in large or small part) it was in need of significant doing up anyway... And he stopped everything. It was valued when the interior was half painted, water stains on a wall were left, the garden was basically a small jungle, the driveway was in need of resurfacing, and one of the upstairs bathrooms was only half finished. Knocked at least £100,000 off the value in t…

Nothing special. Teaching. I don't know if it's for me, but I am concerned about leaving. I'll lose all the progress I've made, and if the IT thing doesn't work out... Eh. In the end, I don't enjoy teaching. So, it's probably the right decision, based on that. As for why Taiwan - simple really. I wanted to go to China, but there were some visa concerns. I probably would've got one, but I was ignorant of the process, and I didn't like the idea of fucking around with the Chinese government. Taiwan…

I haven't, but that does sound good. I'll have to try and make some some time.

Okay. First thing I'll do is not trust him. ... And I'm back to being the same cynical bastard I was. Phew!

Jesus Christ. Part of me likes that I've found MGTOW, because it helps me stay resolute in what I know I need to do. But reading shit like this hurts. I don't know if I should punch a wall or cry. Someone needs to set up a MGTOW country. Hell, if I had to money to buy land, I would.

That's where I found it, yes.

Completely true. I don't love children, but I've come to realize that really, it's the parents that I don't like. The children are just a reflection of those who raise them.

I used to love my old Sony MP3 player. The design was amazing. I doubt they're still made, otherwise I'd buy one.

I know it was just a typo, but when I saw you'd put that she knows she's Wong... This is all I could think of.

I'm teaching, at least at the moment. I see it every day. You can tell which parents are good - involved in their kid's life, willing to discipline if needed - and which aren't just by how the children behave. There are some kids who are, frankly, on a path towards prison. I had one last year who was just awful. The stories I could tell about that one kid alone. Single mother, almost always absent, and this kid is going to be a fucking sociopath.

Well, it wasn't me buying the pretzel, but yeah, I take your meaning. People need thicker skins, I think. It would help in a great many ways.

One of my biggest regrets is that I went to university and did what I was interested in. I should've done computing, or just grown up and been a plumber.

I agree with that. But I don't think that social justice is why we stopped at the Moon. If I had to choose just one thing, I would say capitalism. In the end, the Moon landings were a giant "fuck you" to Russia. World War Two and the Cold War were both amazing for science and technology. So many huge benefits came about because the American, British, and Western governments decided that "Fuck the cost, we need this stuff". After America had gone to the Moon - and Russia conspicuously didn't go t…

Brit-fag, so my views on guns will probably be out of step with the Yanks here. Plus, I've had way less experience with them. That said, this article reeks of bullshit to me. I've used shotguns, mostly 12 gauges. If memory serves, those are bigger than 20s. I was also a weak, scrawny little fucker when I was going clay-pigeon shooting. I never dropped the gun once. The recoil was perfectly manageable if you held the damn thing right. And it wasn't that loud - although I'll admit, after a couple …

No idea. Given that she portrayed catcalling as a "normal" thing, and she was against it, I would've thought she was outside the culture. So... it doesn't make sense to me. She can't be outside a culture and simultaneously affected by it. No idea.

I'm autistic. I basically cannot pick up any social cues from other human beings. Nothing subconscious or implied anyway. Neurotypicals (i.e. 'normal' people) can read body language, facial expressions, and other non-verbal signals, and can intuit the emotions of other people in other ways. I'm high-functioning, so I've been able to learn coping strategies, but those only take me so far. I know certain body-language and facial expression 'triggers' to watch for - but only some. Anything new or u…

Not that unexpected. One of my few friends is a woman who, although she is good in many ways, is slightly into the SJW bullshit. She got in a tizzy when Facebook removed a "Men are trash" post from her page. That kind of thing. I've been warning her that the blowback could eventually hit her. She shrugged it off, saying there wouldn't be anything bad happen. I was being silly, being stupid, I was over-reacting to minor problems. Her father (white male) is being accused by someone at words (non-w…

I feel I can comment with a little more authority than some, because my fucking insane witch of an ex-mother did threaten to kill my father during their divorce. It's a long story - she managed to make the divorce last almost an entire calendar year; about 48 weeks or something stupid, longer than a fucking pregnancy. So, without getting too into it: my father had inherited money when his mother died, and that money had been invested in my mother's name. At the time, she wasn't working, and so t…

if a case goes to court / tribunal, and it is proven that the accused did not rape the accuser (not simply guilt not proven, but proven innocence), then they should have the right to take that person to court for the false claim, and it should carry a very serious charge I apologize then. I misunderstood what you were implying you wanted, and I reacted based on that. It sounds like we actually agree, so I'm sorry. I've no plans on marrying anyone, or even dating anyone. Even if I did plan on it, I'm not having kids. I'm going to get a vasectomy when I got home too. Even so, I do think that Asia is less poisoned - more salvageable - than the West. At least from what I've seen.

True, but there are some abusive fuckers. So I could see it happening. But they'd have the book thrown at them for it. Certainly not a four-year slap on the wrist. I just cannot understand how someone could get such a light sentence for something like that.

Apologies if this has been posted before, but I just found it today. I don't usually look at the Sun, but I was looking at another article, and this came up in the sidebar. Clicked on it, out of curiosity, and I was fucking appalled. A tl;dr, for those who can't access the site for any reason (or just can't be bothered to read it). An Australian mother took her 16-year-old daughter to a hotel, got her drunk, and let a guy - who the mother seemed to know - rape the daughter. The mother is in pris…

I think I've read that before. I assume the victims believe that they'd be safer around women. Men are evil pigs, so you avoid them - and the woman you think is your friend snaps the cuffs around your wrists instead.

Quantum computing is going to change many things, but it will take time. That said, it's going to start soon. I know someone who is heavily involved in government research on it, and we're a matter of years from having ultra-accurate quantum clocks, and other useful technology. And when I say years, I mean counting-on-the-fingers-on-one-hand years. Once the tech is there, there will be an explosion, I agree. But it'll be probably 20 years before quantum lives up to its full potential.

I agree that it's concerning, but there is one area of antibiotics that (as far as I know) isn't really being looked at. Bacterio-phages are, basically, viruses that attack bacteria. The bacteria can't get resistance to them - single-celled organisms have no immune systems - and they could, in theory, be engineered to target only specific cells. So, you could potentially flood a persons body with massive doses of the phage, and it would only harm the bacteria you're targeting. Of course, it woul…

I agree with you about AI and robots building the robots. Eventually, I believe that all manufacturing will be automated, honestly. However, that's my futurism showing through, and I know many believe I'm crazy. Also, it's off-topic. Regarding the "favourite actress" thing - I don't know. I've been wondering about this, and I don't know if companies will sell every actress. I suspect there will be push-back and complaints. Some will probably license their image to be used for the bots - I believ…
