I felt so empty and full of emotions at the same time when I finished the book. It broke my heart when Mariam's mother was made a pariah because Jaleel couldn't control his lust. All her life she was mocked for being a 'harami' (bastard) when she did not choose to be born out of wedlock. Just another example of how a woman paid for a man's mistake!
