From the sidebar of /r/Christianity: No championing a non-Christian agenda. I used to spend a lot of time in /r/Christianity. And in that time, I've heard of and seen people banned for pretty much saying that other viewpoints may be acceptable. Which does not condone for a healthy, open debate.

/r/Christianity does this too. If you say something that isn't pure to the mods ideals of Christianity, and it gets upvoted to the the top of the the comments, or if it's a post that gets to the front page, they ban you.

Unrelated (what you said made me think of it): I had a coworker (who happens to be lesbian) tell me that there's no way I could support the LGBT movement because I'm a white, cisgendered, straight man. It pissed me off because she'd probably call me a hate monger if I told her I was a MRA, but she won't even let me be a part of a movement that's help her in the long run.

Do they know that Joss Whedon is fond of using strong female figures as heroines?

I'll go ahead and admit that I didn't make it past the part about cookbooks. Because I don't really see any cookbooks that are "specifically marketed." I see some that seem a little more feminine, and some that are a little more masculine, but these are usually the books that don't have good recipes, and were just written to make a profit. If you buy a real cookbook, one that was made to spread good food, then it's not geared towards any one gender, it's geared towards those that like working in…

When I read that line, it made me think of that inspirational speech in all of the feel-good movies, where they get the people who don't like each other to work together to succeed.

I don't know, it could be a simple case of misinterpretation of misinformation. That is, she took a Women's Studies class or some seminar on how to prevent rape, and they lightly discussed sexual coercion, but they didn't cover what it means in-depth. So then her boyfriend gives her the sad face, and they have sex. She misinterprets that as sexual coercion, and immediately thinks of rape.

No, they're optional questions that the potential interviewer does not know the answer to going into the interview, and they're for survey reasons. If they were for tax reasons, it would be required like the tax credit assessment they all make you take, that asks about TANF, SNAP, military benefits, and medicare/medicaid benefits. I think those are the programs that if you're enrolled, you get a slight tax break.

Most of the minimum wage job applications ask Are you Hispanic/Latino? [ ] Yes [ ] No They justify it by saying it's for statistical reasons.

I don't have the answer to that question, but if you ask any man in the southeast US, they'll say there's certain things that they can't do because their SO will slap the shit out of them. So I personally have no idea where that sentiment comes from.

By the use of the term cis-gendered, you could make the argument that formerly female-men are allowed too.

So I have a profile on OkCupid.com, since I live in a remote area, and work in a warehouse, and all of my coworkers are men. A few weeks ago, I'm browsing some profiles, and I come upon this chick. The OkCupid bots say that we are a 89% match or something. SO I check out her profile. And it's amazing. It seems to me like we'd click instantaneously. Until I got down to the "Message me if" section. Then I saw it. Don't bother messaging me if you're for Men's Rights, because how is that even possib…

We were on the second date. We talked about it. I told her that I don't have a strong libido. She said that it was fine, because she didn't either. And we were very happy together until I de converted into atheist. Then she couldn't date me.

Yes, which is why people should be able to be concerned about their potential match's libido without being demonized. My last serious girlfriend, I told her straight up on the second date that I wasn't expecting sex anytime soon, and that I'm fine with however long she wants to wait. And she was fine with that.

I didn't get past her reply to the top comment, because that guy made a rational argument that some men aren't automatically the most sexual beings in existence, and that some men like for their to be a connection before sex. And he finished it with the line, "Men have feelings and desires much like women." And what does she do? She scoffs at that line, calling it insincere. Then she goes on to say that women don't have a long history of objectifying men, after she said in her article that men w…

You highlighted everything I thought was concerning about this article. For instance in this recent piece at Essence.com, the male author had the nerve to be “concerned” that a woman might reject the possibility of a relationship with an otherwise compatible mate if his sex game was found lacking. I was dumped because I wasn't "exploratory" enough in bed. And because my libido isn't as strong as most people's. So when I'm looking for a potential match, I take that into consideration. If the woma…

Other M doesn't count as a Metroid game because it was so bad. It's like saying that Crystal Skull is a legitimate Indiana Jones movie. I also wasn't saying that Zelda is the lead in the Legend of Zelda games. She's a secondary character, but she is also one of the strongest characters in the game, both physically and emotionally. Also, the women gamers I know don't give a shit about the sexes of the characters, they care about storyline, gameplay, handling of the controls, you know, the stuff t…

There are practically no games out there with Female role models or complex female characters, and those that exist have been super sexualized in ways that don't make sense and aren't mirrored in the male character design. I beg to differ. The main character in the Metroid games is Samus Aran, who is a badass female lead, and is in no way overly sexualized (she's constantly wearing a full-body armor/suit, dammit). In the Legend of Zelda games, particularly the new ones, Zelda is in no way sexual…

The main argument from all of the die hard feminist students against the professor saying that men are discriminated against when it comes to parental rights was the usual "women are always better parents" bullshit. I think that she would have done a men's rights course, except that it would have never been accepted by the Board of Deans, and there would have been so little interest for it, she wouldn't be able to get the minimum number of students for a class.

It's actually kinda ironic, because I learned about the men's rights movement from a Women's Studies professor, who had a couple of classes devoted to how the men's rights movement has merit. That in a world of feminists, men are discriminated against, especially when it comes to issues of parenting. and all of those die hard feminist girls were in an outrage because a feminist professor was advocating for equal rights across the board.

Well, that's also a negative way to do it. What I told her that she should do is buy her own damned pot and offer to chip in for the toke. If they refuse, let them smoke her out. If she pitches in, at least she's not being that asshole.

You should visit Key West. The places there that have a Happy Hour make it last about 3 hours. No one drives in Key West because the island is only two miles across at the longest, and it's all block-style, so it''s quick and easy to get anywhere.

This. 100% this. But, if you were to switch that around and say, "Whites $7, Blacks $5," The repercussions would not be as bad. On the same note, if you switch around what the board actually says, to be "Women $7, Men $5," there would be some neo-feminism assholes that would picket the place to get them to change it.

It's not the fact that she refused help. It's the fact that she mouthed "I don't want to be raped." Like this man, offering to help her, is actually just there to rape her. If she had just said something like, "No thanks, I have someone coming to help me out," this Facebook post never would have come into existence. And the flattered comment comes from the notion that most people have that rapists will target those who are more attractive.

Part of equal rights involves equal job opportunities. They've enforced legal action to make sure employers properly represent minorities and women in the workplaces. And yet, there are fields that are dominated by women, and these employers are able to freely get away with having a 95+% staff of women, as long as they don't discriminate against racial minorities. Meanwhile, there are men just as qualified or more qualified than the women actually getting the job. And why aren't these men gettin…

Most of these "atheist" organizations are humanist organizations. And yes, humanist organizations tend to push their agenda of being a generally nice and helpful person. And yes, they take donations, but they don't lie to you about where said donations go. Churches accept tithes, which are like donations but more mandatory, and then the church says that this money is going to God, when it's actually going to better this church. Humanist organizations tell you that it's going towards the further …

I'm not talking about formal education. Some of the most useful and some of the most useless shit that I've learned has been from friends, when we're drunk or high and just talking. And I always say that some of the most intellectual conversations I've ever had haven't been in a university classroom, they've been on a dirty patio, sitting on shitty furniture, and with a cigarette in my hand. And that's when I introduce this concept. There's a couple of people who won't talk to me anymore (not li…

That's what education is for. I tell everyone I can about the difference between feminism and the WRM. You know, if it comes up naturally in conversation. I don't just go around telling people about it. And I've been doing that since about a year ago, when I took a women's studies course. I shamelessly stole it from that professor.

Oh, right. I should have clicked on "context" before replying. I'm so used to people getting all uppity when I mention the MRM, and so I go into instant defensive mode. Now back to calling yourself a feminist, I've actually wrote a lot on the term "feminist." To me, a feminist isn't a rights advocate. A feminist doesn't push towards equal anything. And this isn't just hating, it's a simple term misuse. The correct term for a person fighting inequalities against women would be a women's rights ad…

You're probably more for women's rights activism along with men's rights activism. When I talk about it to people, I usually just say that I'm part of the modern equal rights movement. It causes less arguments than actually saying that I'm a MRA, even if I say that I'm also a WRA, and a GLBT rights advocate, because people here MRA and assume I want to make all women slaves or something.

Yes, I understand that this isn't a direct connection. I was just saying that not being the biological father doesn't mean shit. These kids wanted him out of their lives, and he's not the bio dad, then sure, he doesn't pay for them.
/r/MensRights04/02/13 01:09 AM

While I do agree that the wife did a very shitty thing cheating on him and then making him pay child support, I also know that there is a big difference between biological child and relationship child. I have an adopted baby sister. And although my dad (and mom) aren't the biological parents, they are her mom and dad. It's one of those things where it literally does not matter at all, as long as the kids feel like they're loved, and the parents (biological or not) feel like they're parents, and …

I think it's how realistic it is to follow through with these games. Like we could play GTA or CoD, and have fun, but it's difficult to truly impersonate those. Sure, you could jack cars, but the average person playing GTA probably has no idea hot to hotwire a car. And impersonating CoD is completely unrealistic because you can barely even find those guns outside of the military. However, The Boyfriend Trainer is extremely realistic, and extremely easy to impersonate. A wife/girlfriend could rea…

/r/atheism is largely populated by people living in area that have a societal religion. I'm going to use myself as an example. I live in a small town (3,000-5,000). In this small town, I think that there's less than 1% of the population that is not Christian. And I'm willing to bet that less than 1% of that remaining 1% identify as atheist.
